Petrucci Nominated for Greatest Guitar Solo Of All Time
« on: February 25, 2011, 12:36:15 PM »
Twice in fact.

https://www.musicradar.com/guitarist/what-is-the-greatest-guitar-solo-of-all-time-vote-now-385353?cpn=RSS&source=MRGUITARIST

For Under A Glass Moon and Hollow Years at Budokan.

Both pretty good solos, I'm not sure what my favourite Petrucci solo is though, or my favourite solo of all time.

Guys, guys, guys.  We all have to be on the same page or JP will lose.  Let's all vote Hollow Years!

It looks like you can vote as many times as you want so don't worry, I'm sure the forum will be able to spam vote enough for both JP solos to come in first and second  :lol

Alter Bridge is winning by a rather disgustingly large margin.

Voted Hollow Years as well.

I don't think JP's solos will live against "Comfortably Numb" in this poll.

There are two guitar solos on that list that has completely moved me: Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb, and Alter Bridge's Blackbird.

I voted for Blackbird in support to a solo that gets me every time.

I like John Petrucci's solos.  I like them a lot.

The funny thing about this is that I think Under a Glass Moon is one of his best solos (if not his BEST one) and the Hollow Years Budokan one is one of his worst ones.  LOL

Don't know about anyone else but personally I prefer the keyboard solo that follows in Under A Glass Moon to the guitar one. At first I actually thought the keyboard  solo was just another part of the guitar solo and I was like "I can understand why this is considered one of the best solos".

Nah, not gonna happen. A lot of people here know my affection for the song and the band.

Plus, if i were to vote for a Petrucci solo, it would've been for the Razor's Edge piece from Octavarium or Voices.

UaGM solo is pretty good, but I actually think the rest of the song is better.

Hollow Years LaB however is just jaw-dropping. Voting that.

Every time I vote for it its percentage goes down by 0.01%. :lol It must not like me.

Did it occur to anyone that the reason they put 2 Petrucci solos in the poll is so that we would stop spamming DT related votes? :lol

I agree wholeheartedly.  That Hollow Years solo is just, well, not in the same league at ALL.

I looked at the results so far, not even worth voting.  The only thing that poll tells me is, there are an overwhelming number of Alterbridge fans voting.  Stupid.

Is that any different than DT fans voting for Petrucci? How do you know it's all Alter Bridge fans voting for that song? Yes, this poll was posted on the AB forum, but a lot of members from that board were voting for Pink Floyd and GNR.  Blackbird has been revered by the numbers! And like zxlkho said, the solo really, really, REALLY good, as is the song.

So stop bitchin, and vote for you favorite solo if you wanna make a difference in it.

I listened to the Alter Bridge song just for the sake of argument, and so I can safely say that there isn't all that much I'd consider special about that solo.

Voted for Under a Glass Moon, but seriously considered Since I've Been Loving You.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

Next to Comfortably Numb would be UAGM though in this poll

I agree Blackbird probably shouldn't be in there, but Tremonti is an amazing gutiarist and Blackbird is a very fine piece of work.

The lack of Sultans of Swing, Hotel California and Still Got the Blues votes in the results makes me sad.

Nothing special or even different about the AB solo for me. I've hundreds of similar solos in my collection but if it hit you it hit you. good production job on it but generic rock ballad solo to me.
Not a fan of UAGM solo so HY and FTLOG get my votes.

I don't think JP's solos will live against "Comfortably Numb" in this poll.

They better not.  Love the two solos they picked, but put them against Comfortably Numb and its like a video of God playing guitar(Gilmour) to Fred Durst's attempt at a guitar solo(Petrucci).  Petrucci might be my favorite guitarist overall, but that Floyd solo slays everyone and everything.

Nah, I don't buy it.  Considering the company it's in with the other nominees, it's easy to see that the results are largely biased.  I'm a huge JP fan but in a poll that says "Best guitar solo of all time?"  Some well deserving people aren't even on the list and I'd never vote for JP over Gilmore or Vai.  Sorry, but I'm not an Alterbridge fan so my vote won't make much difference.

Just so people realise I only saw this poll because it was posted on an Alter Bridge forum which is probably why it's mostly Alter Bridge fans so far. Same stuff happened with that guitarist poll how JP was ahead by like 40% after being posted here...

Also I did in fact vote Alter Bridge, that solo is one of my favourite and definitely the one I enjoy most that's up there. I'd maybe have voted for a different JP solo.
