Primus/Les Claypool is Awesome Thread
« on: June 14, 2009, 05:49:23 PM »
Primus is awesome. Les Claypool is one of those bassists who have the ability to completely steal the spotlight from the guitar player, which I love and hate at the same time. But Primus makes it work. I'd say my favorite album is Sailing the Seas of Cheese.

Seas of cheese is classic.  Pork Soda is pretty mint to but not to fond of their other stuff.  Brown Album can GTFO

Their first 3 albums are some of my favorites. Tim Alexander is awesome, and Les Claypool is an incredible bassist (and I think that singing really suits Primus).

Awesome band. Amazing live. I think they can get a lil overrated at times. But they are definitely awesome. I love Tim, Larry, and Les as individual players as well as Primus members.
I can't imagine how amazing an experience [SCORE] must of been to see.

Love Primus. Frizzle Fry, Pork Soda, and Seas of Cheese are all quality albums.

Can we turn this into a Les Claypool thread? I love a lot of his other work too.

love primus.  Les is the man.

I love the little bit where he tried out for Metallica after Burton died.  He said he came in and said "you guys wanna jam on some eisley brothers tunes"

Hetfield said that he was way too good to be in the band...

He got me into bass in the first place. Jerry Was a Race Car Driver has one of the greatest bass lines I've ever heard. And the fact that the guy can sing over it is just freaking insane. Only album of theirs that I don't really enjoy is Antipop.

LaLonde is also a great guitarist (be it in Primus or Possessed).

I thought he didn't join because his playstyle is not suited to thrash metal, not because he was "too good."

Hell ya, I used to love Primus back in the day.  Been listening to Sailing the Seas of Cheese lately for the first time in years!  "Those Damn Blue Collar Tweekers" was always a favorite of mine off that album.

I love American Life, and Southbound Pachyderm. Funny thing is I saw SP's video when I was like 6 and couldn't remember what I saw until I watched it again at a friends house.

Love Primus.  Claypool is my favorite bass player and tim is one of my favorite drummers. Together, they make up my favorite bass/drummer combo when playing together.  I'm not huge into their whole discography, but on the whole I dig them a lot.  such a creative band.  All great musicians.

I can't wait to hear the studio version of Lee Van Cleef.

The live version is so damn catchy.

Still spinning Green Naugahyde regularly.

It was so obviously recorded live since there are mistakes everywhere but it's ok since its Primus and the songs are excellent.

Only timing issues where they drift out of sync with each other and Ler misses the occasional note ( most notably in Jilly's on Smack ) but thats their style.

I know what you're talking about with Jilly, but that's most definitely intentional. I never noticed a single time when the band isn't tighter than a cat's anus.

Never was a huge fan.. Saw 'em live in 09... One of the greatest shows of my life. I sit down to listen to their studio what nots... and I can't get into'em. Then I watch live vids on jewtube and I am all :metal

So yea.

So energy, Powah
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Green Naugahyde keeps creeping up higher and higher on my top albums of the year. It almost beats out new Devin Townsend and Unexpect. Almost.
I felt its length in quite a few places.
