I saw Alcest live last night and the show was a really nice and beautiful experience
The venue was pretty small and the atmosphere was intimate. It was probably the most mellow metal show I've been to, as there was barely any headbanging
Neige didn't talk a lot, but he had a cute French accent and seemed really pleased to be there.
I won't spoil the setlist for those who want to be surprised, but there were two songs with screaming, so Alcest haven't pulled an Opeth despite the new direction. They used backing tracks for keyboards, backing vocals (the touring guitarist was clearly lip-syncing on some songs
) and even some clean guitars on songs with more than two guitars. I didn't mind, though, because it made the sound fuller and the multilayered songs wouldn't have sounded the same if they had been stripped down.
If you have a chance to catch Alcest live, go and see them! Their shows are different from typical metal shows, but in a good way - you can just close your eyes and enjoy the music.
