New Stryper Tour!
« on: February 15, 2011, 12:50:48 PM »
Looks like Stryper is headed out on the road. After all these years (been a fan since 1988-1989), finally going to see them live. I'm not an over-the-top fan, but I really dig a lot of their tunes. A contrast to the depressing lyrical material I usually listen to, and of course, great musicianship and vocals.

Hahaha awesome!  I was jamming some Stryper last night on guitar; the opening riff to The Way (i think its called?).  Wicked riff.  I would totally go if I didn't live in the ass of the world.

Their new album, The Covering has an awesome tracklist.

SWEET - 'Set Me Free'
SCORPIONS - 'Blackout'
BLACK SABBATH - 'Heaven and Hell'
UFO - 'Lights Out'
KANSAS - 'Carry On Wayward Son'
DEEP PURPLE - 'Highway Star'
KISS - 'Shout It Out Loud'
OZZY OSBOURNE - 'Over The Mountain'
IRON MAIDEN - 'The Trooper'
JUDAS PRIEST - 'Breaking The Law'
VAN HALEN - 'On Fire'
LED ZEPPELIN - 'Immigrant Song'
'God' (New song)

would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I've yet to buy the covers record. I plan to before the gig. Probably the day of, so I can listen to it as I am driving to the show. A pretty decent singer I know is accompanying me, so it'll be tenor overload in the Samsaramobile.

They announced a gig at the venue where my band opened for Paul Di'Anno. Gonna try to get on the bill. Not a religious person, but the band is decent, and Michael Sweet has a hell heck of a voice.

:rollin  I doubt I'll do much singing tomorrow.  You make me feel too self-conscious at concerts because you just stand there and scowl at the band.  Shoot, my grandma moshes harder than you, you old fogey!

I'm tempted to cite as an example the last show we went to where you literally stood there and stared at the band while forming a puddle of drool like a 70-year-old Alzheimer's patient.  But in all fairness, given that you were literally about 3 feet from Christina Scabbia the entire time, one could make the argument that that's an entirely natural reaction.

Recently, when I posted that "Map of Metal" thread, I was reminded of a Stryper tune I had forgoten all about, "Free".  Damn, what a flashback that was.  Excellent.

"Free" was actually an extremely popular video at the time when it was first released.  That was back when MTV played the top 10 most requested videos every day (at 3 or 4 CT), and "Free" was number 1 every day for like a month straight.

Interesting timing on that post.  I am literally right in the middle of that track at this very moment on the 7 Weeks Live CD.

I have "Calling on You", "Always There for You", and "Honestly" on the iPod.  Have to put "Free" on there.

Another that I always liked, that was maybe less known or popular, was "Sing-Along Song".  Something about it was just very catchy and ear-wormish.

EDIT:  When I first typed that, it said "Sin-Along Song"  :lol

:lol  That's currently their set opener.  I hope they don't change it for tomorrow.  Normally, I like something a bit more up-tempo (I would consider Sing Along Song more mid-tempo), but it's so upbeat and literally screams out for audience participation, so I think it's a good opener.

Outstanding.  I'm sure it will be an excellent show.  I passed on seeing them the last time they were close by.  I really should try to see them on this tour.

Also, I'm reminded of Kev's remark on Michael Sweet's vocals here:

Say WOT?! LOL. I do not! I couldn't help it that Cristina kept on putting her leg up near my ear and allowing me photos of places most people don't get to take photos of. The drool was just an expected reaction!   :lol

You WILL sing tomorrow, because I plan to, and I need you to do the high harmonies! LOL. And we will rock out, from the seats up from the floor, which have a good sightline. I ain't standin for all the openers on the floor. lol

We'll see.  At minimum, I guess I have to sing on Sing Along Song.  I think it's mandatory.  But I'm not singing any ballads because I honestly (see what I did there?) don't like Stryper ballads very much.  And I'm not singing any Yellow & Black Attack or Against the Law songs because I don't have those albums anymore (never made the switchover from cassette to CD on those) and don't remember how any of them go.  :lol

But I swear if you wear yellow and black spandex, you'll be sitting alone.

Be sure to get pictures of this Bro'ad trip (Bro-Road-Trip).  Specifically one of the two of you singing along whilst in traffic.

Just picture in your mind a basic Wayne & Garth mirthmobile Bohemian Rhapsody moment, sans licorice dispenser, and that's probably close enough for all intents and purposes.

You're safe. No spandex. Remember, I'm on assignment at the show. Can't rock the spandex when I need to be reporting on the show. LOL!!!!!!

And you will sing. And that's ok about Yellow and Black Attack and Against the Law. I just got them again on CD for the first time too, so I know nothing. But you will be signing the classics, and the covers.

You should rock the KISS makeup for "Shout it Out"

Somebody (Coz>) should mock up bosk's face with one of the KISS guys. Give him Paul Stanley.

Funny thing is, I remembered afterwards and put it in with Sam's suggestion:

Good man. Thanks.

And folks, if you've never been to a show with bosk1, seriously, that is how he paints his face up (including the white). He's a closet KISS fanatic.   :loser:    :rollin

and yes, I'm joking. He does rock a mean sweatshirt around his waist though.  :D

Stryper was my favorite band when I was a little kid, up until the 4th grade or so when I started getting into heavier/darker bands like Faith No More and Megadeth. I especially loved the Soldiers Under Command and To Hell With the Devil records, though they were all impressive. I remember writing a letter to the band, and shortly after, I got a response from Michael, typed on yellow paper :) I didn't see them live until a couple years ago--it was strange seeing my favorite childhood band for the first time as an adult, but comforting when they put on an excellent show. They all sounded great, and Michael was able to hit all the high notes brilliantly; Oz Fox is still a really gifted vocalist as well. It was definitely alienating and annoying when they started throwing Bibles into the audience, but at least everything else about the show was enjoyable.
On a side note, I was proud of them for taking part in the benefit concert to help those injured in the Great White night club fire in Rhode Island(which killed about a hundred people).
And yes, you just gotta sing along to Sing Along Song--catchy as hell!

It was kinda discussed in the M3 thread last year.
