That's the tough part of being the newer singer after an amazing singer has placed their signature into the tone and sound of the music.

I don't think that's it at all, at least not for me. I don't like Tom's voice. Period. There's a reason that I don't listen to Evergrey.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

He shouldn't have had to justify with a response really, but nice that he did.  Ray isn't in the band anymore, so what's he supposed to do?  I don't mind since Tom is one of my fav singers.

As others have said, he didn't need to tell Tom to sing differently as the last album wouldn't have sounded like Evergrey if he did, just like Redemption never sounded like FW.

Tim - have you ever checked out their In Search of Truth album (it's their third, from 2001)? I know sometimes his voice can be a bit "much", but that album for me it's a mini-masterpiece of dark, progressive/power metal, and I find Englund's voice on it a little easier to digest (even if arguably less "mature")

(Sorry, not to hijack the thread into an Evergrey discussion...just a quick rec)

Yep, and to be clear, I LOVE Tom's voice myself - but I get how it might not be everyone's cup of tea...

New song isn’t doing it for me. Tom’s vocals sound “off” to my ears.

And how is a song called “Seven Minutes From Sunset” only four and a half minutes long?

Seeing that Nik has a tendency to throw a cover on albums occasionally, if Red Rain is going to be his take on the Peter Gabriel song :caffeine:

I'm most curious to see their heavy version of Turn It On Again, since is the original is so light and keyboard's oriented.

More dumb record label ideas, vinyl exclusive songs, but a Genesis cover on the CD?

That does seem like a really silly idea in this day and age, but I guess with CD's on the out and streaming services taking over, they need something to try and keep buying some sort of physical product.  They'll end up online pretty quick anyway though.

Why not cd and vinyl only?  People who want a physical copy can choose the format that works for them.  I'm not buying the vinyl; I do have a cd player though.

I still haven't heard the newest song; may just wait for the album to be out.

So it's an album of 7 new tracks and two covers, one which falls during original track play, and a remix, and two more original songs only exclusive as bonus tracks on vinyl?

I don't understand why they would agree to this?

It's still almost an hour or new original music.

Sure and  don't get me wrong, keen as to hear this but dunno.  Why put two cover songs on the CD pressing and not the more original songs for all to enjoy?  And will never understand why bands continue to put these covers iwhere they do and not at albums end?

Tracklisting just seems a little messy but maybe it's just me!?

Agreed with a lot of the comments about the bonus tracks and the covers.  But thought I'd respond to this:
And will never understand why bands continue to put these covers iwhere they do and not at albums end?

Tracklisting just seems a little messy but maybe it's just me!?
I think it depends on a lot of things.  Some bands just don't care about track order, and it can be kind of random.  We know bands like this.  For bands that DO care about track order and include cover songs, I can see the decision of where to put the covers being influenced by a lot of factors.  Maybe the album proper has a certain flow, and they want to feel like the album ends on a certain note, so they put the cover somewhere in the middle to preserve their proper ending with the band's chosen closing song.  Or maybe they want to preserve a certain overall album flow and have the cover song tacked on at the end to feel more like "OK, the main album is over.  But here's a little bonus encore for the fans."  I don't see either as being a problem.  As with other tracklisting decisions, it's just another aspect of the band's creative visions.  Sometimes the fans think it works; sometimes we don't.

There are bands that don't care about the track order?  That's news to me although I can see how the label might have influence over that and I'm sure the label has influence in this situation too.

I think, like Van Halen or Metallica, what Redemptions does is much closer to versions than covers, making them very much their own. So, it makes sense, if they feel like the covers fit among their newer material, to place them in the main album. But... I wouldn't trade any new song of theirs for a cover.
