Thomas Giles - Pulse
I'll likely give it a spin in a few days.

I liked that, but it wore thin on me pretty quickly.

Looking forward to picking up the Queen remasters this week. I love the band, but a lot of their music really is new to me still.

Just picked up The Color Morale's new album titled "My Devil In Your Eyes" and I'm blown away! GREAT album! Very consistent, vocals are fantastic, and the music flows so well.

I highly recommend for fans of August Burns Red and Haste The Day. It is probably one of my favorite albums right now.
Where would YOU be without prog?!
I'd be standing somewhere with dignity, respect, and bitches.

All I've picked up so far this year is new Scale the Summit and Thomas Giles.  Scale the Summit album grows on me with every listen, and despite what others say, feels like a step in a new direction.  I listened to Pulse once, and don't have the intention of listening to it again.

Sad considering it's one of (maybe THE) best album(s) released this year so far.

Pulse just kinda proved to me how vital the heavy/soft dynamic is for BTBAM. It's not bad it's just... uneventful.

Haven't bought any yet, although my most anticipated albums to purchase this year are:

Dream Theater - XI (duh! :P)

Symphony X - Iconoclast (About damn time, finding those new songs on youtube just made waiting all the more difficult.  Ahh well, at least this time it only took them 4 years instead of 5)

Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Romanov: When Kings Must Whisper (considering they started writing way this back during the making of Savatage's Edge of Thorns (1993), I am very, very curious to see just how epic this rock opera will be)

Nightwish - Imaginarium (not only are they making a movie to accompany this, but as Annette's sophomore effort, this will be a very interesting album to hear)

I may also be interested in the new Queensryche, although I am also very afraid of being disappointed, as few of their albums since Promised Land have really impressed me (Mindcrime II was a step back in the right direction, though I really wish they had just written a whole new concept for the album and left the O:M legacy alone  >:( )

Still haven't listened to Pulse yet...

I listened to a bit of the new The Human Abstract album (it was on in the background at work) and it seemed pretty good. I'll have to listen to it again and pay more attention.

Bumping to say that Amplifier - The Octopus is such a mindblowing album.
Roughly 2 hours long, this double-album really manages to take me on a pretty epic journey.
A lot of the songs are long, one on each disc clocks in at over 10 minutes, the music could be described as a mix of Progressive Rock/Metal, Space-Rock and Art-rock.
I'm pretty sure that a lot of the people on this forum would love this, so check it out.  :tup
White Horses at Sea/Utopian Daydream is my current favorite, what a tune.  :hefdaddy

UPDATE TIME! My 2011 purchases and listening looks something like this:

Bought on CD:

Amplifier - The Octopus
Excellent album, really great return to the quality of their first album after a decent but not very interesting second album. 8/10

Ulver - Wars of the Roses
Only arrived a couple of days ago so haven't listened enough yet but I'm really digging it. Probably either an 8/10 or 9/10!

Bought on digital download:

Shpongle - The God Particle (EP)
Very good, but not nearly as interesting as their last few full-length albums, this is much more straightforward electronica. 7/10

Radiohead - The King of Limbs
Very good stuff, but a little one-directional in tone. 7/10

Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues (EP)
Excellent EP, much heavier than TGM and not quite as engaging all the way through, but some really terrific stuff in there! 8/10

Blackfield - Welcome to My DNA
Another top-notch album from them, probably rank it in between the other albums. 8/10

Protest the Hero - Scurrilous
Probably my favourite PtH album, so much fun and really consistently good throughout. 9/10

Within Temptation - The Unforgiving
Excellent album, so many amazing choruses! Think I still slightly prefer the last one, as it had a little more variety. 8/10

Hiromi - Voice
Absolutely wonderful jazz album, she's amazingly technical but this album is very pleasant and nice to listen to. Definitely the best thing I've heard from her! 9/10

Listened on Spotify/Grooveshark/etc but not purchased:

Bright Eyes - The People's Key
Great album, really nice mix of their different styles. Solid indie album. 8/10

dredg - Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy
Can't see what all the fuss is about, I love it. Better than El Cielo IMO but falls short of CWA. 8/10

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Really excellent album, definitely a strong contender for their best! 8/10

Sylosis - Edge of the Earth
Very good thrash metal, would rate it higher but it gets a little samey after a while. 7/10

Mother Mother - EUREKA
Nice return to a form after a less interesting second album. Great mix of fun and serious stuff. 8/10

Children of Bodom - Relentless Reckless Forever
Big return to form after the last couple of albums and pretty good overall, but nothing that exciting. 6/10

Evergrey - Glorious Collision
Yet another return to form; very solid album! 8/10

Stateless - Matilda
Lovely album, rating might change after more listens but so far I'm really digging it! 8/10

disasterPEACE - Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar
Good in terms of musical ideas, but pretty weak in terms of sounds, even by chiptune standards. 5/10

Overall:

Pretty good year so far! No real masterpieces yet, but most stuff I've listened to I've rated 8/10 (excellent) or higher. There also seems to be a recurring theme of returns to form.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.
I be am boner inducing.

My top 5 2011 albums right now:

1. Ulver - Wars of the Roses
2. Radiohead - The King of Limbs
3. Bright Eyes - The People's Key
4. dredg - Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy
5. CunninLynguists - Oneirology

Still need time to rank the new dredg properly. Also, I still need to get the new Eisley, Blackfield, BTBAM and Protest the Hero (still not sure if I'll get those or not).

Lots of good stuff coming my way. Devin's Deconstruction and, as soon as it arrives, Ghosts will probably shake up my rankings. Also, just obtained my physical copy of Blackfield 3 and it's much better than I remember it being.

Other notable additions to my ranking of the first page are Iconoclast and the Color Spectrum. Both are good, but I doubt either will crack my year-end top ten.

REALLY looking forward to the new Yes next month!

It's been a slow year for me. Mainly old bands with new albums.

Mr Big- What If... Good album. Kevin Shirley ruined it with his production of Eric Martin's vocals.

Night Ranger- Somewhere In California- Excellent new album. I was never a fan but this is really good.

Eden's Curse- Trinity. Good bog-standard Metal. JLB lifts it up.

Maiden-FFTE- A good latter--day compilation.

Ten- Stormwarning- It's ok. Not a patch on The Robe or Spellbound :metal

Whitesnake- Forevermore- Another good album. DC's voice is all but gone but Doug Aldritch and Reb Beach smoke on this.

Symphony X- Iconoclast. Alot to take in but it's quality.

StOrk- ST. Brilliant instrumental madness, and Thomas Lang!!!!  I hope come August I'm not sat listening to ADTOE thinking "What might have been"
