Oh, that's tough, didn't know where you are.

They've REALLY been pushing hard in recent years, and have done regular large tours of Europe. Nice to see a band breathe a second life into their career as they have.

Really digging Passion at the moment.  It's taking more spins that Pure, and overall I think Pure is better, but that was my first Pendragon album.  Loving the title track and Empathy which is great, seems like Indigo 2 or something.  I like Nick's spoken rap thing too, and the solo is killer.

Really enjoy Green and Pleasant Land.  A nice commercial touch which actually reminds me of Oasis a bit in the chorus, killer song.  I still have World and Overture to listen to too.  :metal

New dvd for 2012

"Out Of Order Comes Chaos" March 2012 on dvd and Blu-Ray

As previously announced Metal Mind Productions will release the brand new DVD. The Live DVD entitled  "Out Of Order Comes Chaos” will be available in March 2012. It contains a show recorded in Katowice during the Polish leg of the tour promoting the band’s most recent album “Passion”. For the first time in their career live material will be released also on a Blu-Ray. The DVD and Blu Ray, as well as a 2 CD set will be available through the Pendragon website.

Nick Barrett: "We've tried to do material that we haven't played very much before, particularly in Poland, and for the DVD we've changed the set drastically so that people don't buy the new DVD and just get the same songs as the last one. In fact it's probably the best dvd we've ever made , lights, visuals and sound are stunning"

Here is the final tracklist:

1. Passion
2. Back in the Spotlight
3. Ghosts
4. Not of this World
5. Comatose
6. If I Were the Wind
7. Freakshow
8. Empathy
9. This Green and Pleasant Land
10. Shane
11. Feeding Frenzy
12. Nostradamus
13. Last Man on Earth
14. Indigo
15. Prayer
16. Paintbox

Yummy.

I just got Maximo, but haven't watched it yet.  I will definitely get this, just for the inclusion of Indigo.

After spinning Passion over and over, it might just be beating Pure for me.  Green and Pleasant land has become my fav song from both of these albums, it's absolutely amazing, the chorus, the melodies, the atmosphere are perfect, and I think Nick's yodelling at the end somehow fits the subject matter and atmosphere of the song.  I think I like it more than Indigo and Freakshow.

I definitely prefer Passion to Pure, which was a good album, but substandard by their standards I thought.

Overture has some of the best Pendragon tunes. World is more consistent.

Listening to Overture for the first time.  This is a great, great prog band, why are not many people here into them?  Love the arrangements, the melodies and the overall lighter atmosphere of this one.  Really liked Paintbox and The Shadow.  What an amazing band.

Having a listen to Overture (at least, what's available of it on Grooveshark).  Liking.  When I first listened to them (Passion), I was expecting something heavier, so was disappointed.  Now that I'm listening to them as more of a purist prog band (like Yes), I'm really digging it.  Listening to Guardian of my Soul right now.   :tup

There's a lot of prog that is not appreciated in this forum. I think there are way more people that like metal and indie than there are that like prog.

Me neither, but all the indie guys are in those 2 roulettes so it's not that surprising.

Also, listening to Overture right now  :metal

Really enjoyed Overture after my full first listen.  The outro to Master of Illusion is incredible.  Great band, liking what I'm hearing.

This is true, and I'm usually one of those people, but I'm loving Pendragon.  They are like a cross of Marillion, Yes, Magnum and Rush.

Magnum aren't prog, they are british AOR rock, but have strong melodies and keyboards similar to what I'm hearing in Overture.  More simple songs structures but catchy hooks and a lot of enjoyable albums.  Check On A Storytellers Night.  If you don't like that, then don't bother with them.

I'm checking out some songs by these guys right now.  I'd heard a song (or two) from Passion back when it dropped and I wasn't all that impressed, but the songs I've heard from Pure have been really, really good.  They have a very fresh sound, one that's obviously influenced by the 'classic' bands but they have enough of their own that they don't sound like they're just mimicking the greats.  I might have to pick up Pure sometime soon.

Having heard only Believe, Pure and Passion (which have really grown on me, btw), I gotta ask, is this one of those bands where the lead singer was in his prime when they were going in the 80s/90s? Because his voice always sounds like it's being strained or doesn't have much range. Doesn't bring the music down for me at all, but it does stick out to me.

From what I've heard that's Nick's voice, on Overture he sounds the same.  In fact, I'd say he sounds better on Pure and Passion, fits that sort of darker music well.  It's an acquired taste, and yes, he is not the best vocalist in the world, but I think it fits his band perfectly and don't have any problems with his vocals.  Nick actually reminds me of Kai Hansen in his lower range.

Nick will be able to answer the question more accurately though.

Nick reminds me a lot of Neal Morse in that his strength doesn't lie in his range or raw talent. On older albums he had a real knack for great melodies and on newer material he has more emotion and edge to pull him threw.

Eraserhead owns, but IMO, Indigo and Freak Show are the stars of the album.

Giving this a bump because I really keep coming back to Pendragon a lot lately.  Plus they just released their new DVD which is killer.  I'm still discovering the albums I have but I'm hooked on all of these songs;

Indigo
Freak Show
Walls of Babylon
Masters of Illusion
Green and Pleasant Land
Paintbox
As Good As Gold
The Shadow
Breaking the Spell
The Voyager
Shane

Nick is one hell of an underrated guitarist.  :metal
