"She said luck is all you make it, if you just reach out an take it, now let's dance a while."

Also, see sig.

time flies?

Is it seriously luck not life? That's highly disappointing.
I though it was "love"  :-\

Same. Kind of ruins a beautiful line fore me, seeing as I came here to post that.
Everything can, should and will be progressive.

A few random favourite lyrics of mine:

Rage Against the Machine - Born of a Broken Man

Like autumn leaves, his sense fell from him
An empty glass of himself shattered somewhere within
His thoughts like a hundred moths
Trapped in a lampshade
Somewhere within
Their wings banging and burning
On through endless nights
Forever awake, he lies shaking and starving
Praying for someone to turn off the light

Weezer - Butterfly

Yesterday I went outside
With my mama's mason jar,
Caught a lovely butterfly

When I woke up today
Looked in on my fairy pet
She had withered all away
No more sighing in her breast

I'm sorry for what I did
I did what my body told me to
I didn't mean to do you harm
Everytime I pin down what I think I want, it slips away
The goal slips away

System of a Down - Bounce

I went out on a date
With a girl, a bit late,
She had so many friends
I brought my pogo stick
Just to show her a trick,
She had so many friends...

Bic Runga - When I See You Smile

It’s not for anybody else to know
The way your face could light the bitter dark
In every street, in every town I’ll ever go

Kayo Dot - A Pitcher of Summer

One morning, before the leaves began changing
I caught a piece of summer and poured it into a pitcher;

This I placed in the cellar on a shelf collecting dust .
Autumn, then winter, rose up from the sea, and my
Garden was a garden filled with unbroken snow.

No flower strained its face to the ice giants' whisper,
No life coloured the vision of a newborn Spring babe.
My cellar-water dripping into a pail

And I lifted my piece of summer
Like a piece of memory or a dream

Like these, caught on film
And carried it to the garden floes,
The wind turning drifting stars to madness.

Poured forth gracefully, this ctheric tincture
Lifts winter's coat-of-arms with coaxing aromas and electricity.
Used with vigilance, a Pitcher of Summer stirs a memory into swooning,
And bravely, the flowers of the past will stretch their limbs into the sky
While snow falls quietly all around.

Maybe my favorite lyrics in the world.

I want to start a new life
with my valuable hunting knife
she will shine like a new girl
and I want to shout out our love to the world (Hit it!)
everything I think about I think about
everything I talk about I talk about
with you
but you don't know what I go through
you don't know

days, they will turn into nights
but my valuable hunting knife
it will not rust through the tears
and it will not lose its appeal over years (Come on!)
everything I think about I think about
everything I talk about I talk about
with you
but you don't know what I go through
you don't know
I'll never know

Tool - 10.000 Days (Wings Pt.2)
Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescents.
Difficult to see you in this light.
Please forgive this bold suggestion, but
Should you see your maker's face tonight,
Look him in the eye,
Look him in the eye and tell him
"I never lived a lie, never took a life,
But surely saved one"
Hallelujah,
It's time for you to bring me home.

So fucking amazing.

I'm just copying these from my Facebook page  :P I could literally post pages upon pages of amazing lyrics.

"I am crying unwept tears through this violence
I'll die trying to break this thick crust of silence" - Pain of Salvation

"The tears that I cry
Through the eyes of the betrayer
...Might be the last that I taste in this life
There's no room for the sorrow in this is image of a lifetime
Only delight and the joy life has given me." - Nightingale

"I would hold you when you're sleeping
I would guide you when you're drifting
I'd be the light you seek in your darkest hour" - Evergrey

"Together we lived our lives, and together we will leave
It shall be the final tie of our bloody seal...
We gave our secret promise on the shore of our red streams
The bloody oath of real love, the oath of red falling leaves" - Eternal Tears of Sorrow

"Lost in the desolation of love
The passions we reap and sow
Lost in the desolation of life
This path that we walk.." - Agalloch

I want to be the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause (oooh)
I will travel across the land
Searchin' far and wide
Each Pokemon to understand
The power that's inside! (Power inside!)

Pokemon!
It's you and me.
I know it's my destiny!
Pokemon!
Ooh you're my best friend
In a world we must defend!
Pokemon!
A heart so true
Our courage will pull us through
You teach me and I'll teach you
Pokemon!
(Gotta catch 'em) Gotta catch 'em Gotta catch 'em all!

Every challenge along the way
With courage I will face
I will battle everyday
To claim my rightful place!
Come with me, the time is right!
There's no better team
Arm and arm, we'll win the fight!
It's always been a dream!

Pokemon!
It's you and me.
I know it's my destiny!

Any nevermore song ever

but a specific example from "This godless endeavor"

We contemplate oblivion as we resonate our dissonance
In godless random interpretation
The universe still expands, mankind still can’t understand
How to define you, so hide your face and watch us exterminate ourselves over you
Welcome to the end my friend, the sky has opened

GENESIS - HEATHAZE

No cloud, a sleepy calm,
Sunbaked earth that's cooled by gentle breeze,
And trees with rustling leaves,
Only endless days without a care,
Nothing must be done.

Silent as a day can be,
Far-off sounds of others on their chosen run
As they do all those things they feel give life some meaning,
Even if they're dull.

It's time to stop this dreaming, must rejoin the real world
As revealed by orange lights and a smoky atmosphere.

The trees and I are shaken by the same wind but whereas
The trees will lose their withered leaves,
I just can't seem to let them loose.

And they can't refresh me those hot winds of the south.
Oh I feel like an alien, a stranger in an alien place.

Now the light is fading fast,
Chances slip away, a time will come to pass
When there'll be none,
Then addicted to a perfumed poison,
Betrayed by its aftertaste,
Oh we shall lose the wonder and find nothing in return.
Many are the substitutes but they're powerless on their own.

Beware the fisherman who's casting out his line
Into a dried up river bed,
But don't try to tell him 'cos he won't believe you.
Throw some bread to the ducks instead, it's easier that way.

I feel like an alien, a stranger in an alien place.

The trees and I are shaken by the same wind but whereas
The trees will lose their withered leaves,
I just can't seem to let them loose.
And they can't refresh me those hot winds of the south.
I feel like an alien, a stranger in an alien place.

The bolded parts in particular... I was driving back from the JR show with my friend on Sunday and we had such a broment blasting this album and singing along to every line.... this song really hit me then, and I've been listening to it so much now lately.

Radiohead - Fitter Happier

I don't get it at all. What's it about? What's the "twist"?

I always felt that the entire set of lyrics up until the last line was describing a person who was trying to better the way they live... the kind of positive and honest living that most people strive for.  Regular exercise, eating right, sleeping good, having children, etc...  But in the end they twist it on you into something really negative ("A pig in a cage on antibiotics")  As if you're not really thinking for yourself if you live like that.  Or like you are being controlled by others.  They like to to set you up for something seemingly positive and then turn it around on you.

If you haven't heard the actual song, give it a listen... it's really cool... the words are actually read by a computer voice! haha

And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest you have sown.
And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone.
And it's too late to lose the weight you used to need to throw
around.
So have a good drown, as you go down, all alone,
Dragged down by the stone.

I'm a big lyrics kind of guy. My favorite artists are those with amazing lyrics to compliment their music.

mercy me, the night is long
take my pen to write you this song
Lord, is it harder to carry on
when i know when you are done

all my life, i've felt as though
i'm inside a beautiful
memory replaying with the sound turned down low

long life, show your face
slow heart, curb your taste
come smoke me out of my hiding place
long life, state your case

what in the world are we waiting for?
building glowing cities 'long the shore
where the wind batters, invading my kin
like a matador

so much value placed upon
what lies just beyond our plans
waving my handkerchief
running along to the edge of the sand

long life, speak your name
i'm so tired of the guessing game
but something is moving just out of frame
long life, brace and aim

reaching slowly 'cross the sea
one mast, flash like the stinger of a bee
to take you away; a swarming fleet
is gonna take you from me

the universe is getting loose
sudden spread from some leaden disuse
rushing unhinged towards diminishing lights
like a headless caboose

i'll wait for you alongside the ocean
and make do with my moleskine
but then, long life, will you let me in?
and then, slow heart, are you gonna know him?

long life, speak your name
await while i bequiet the wave
and when i die, may i relate
and then, slow heart, congregate

to leave your home and your family
for some distortional property
well darling, i can't go (and darling, i can't go)
but you may stay here with me

Sorry to post consecutively, but I have to get some Momus in here somewhere. This guy knows how to make some poetry music.

I was born with the charm of innocence
on my back like a cross
thorns upon my forehead
round my neck I wore it
sometimes a rabbit's claw
sometimes an albatross

It began at a school that turned boys into gentlemen
then turned them on to debauchery
I was forced to my knees in front of these gentlemen
if I refused they would torture me
on Sundays I'd stalk the Botanical Garden
and under my uniform something would harden
whenever I passed a girl of my own age

or did it begin with au pair girls from Germany
paid by the hour to look after us?
did it begin with that first opportunity
to corner a stranger with nakedness?
maybe the clinical way they undressed me
stayed with me and deeply distressed me
I think, at heart, I'm something of a prude

then at 18 I decided I wanted
to be a commercial photographer
I rented a studio down by the docks
which I shared with a friendly pornographer
I photographed models in fluorescent light
whose veins were so blue and whose breasts were so white
I assumed, like the moon, women were blue cheese

when I left home I already had five years
of self abuse under my belt
I found certain women who'd let me try anything
just to find out how it felt
in some garish hotel room with vile decoration
the wallpaper witnessed my first pollination
the paisley patterns witnessed an abortion

in the army they taught me to share the abuse
that I'd kept up 'til then to myself
there's nothing like killing
for coaxing a shy boy of twenty-one out of his shell
in the dark continent with a peace-keeping force
I fell in with a bunch of Algerian whores
and promised them I'd try and keep in touch

we met up again in the 18th arrondisement
I remember them well
their lank stringy hair and their big bulbous noses
their unmistakable smell
I'd approach all the ugliest, seediest jerks
and ask them to keep a young model in work
some men, thank Christ, don't discriminate at all

I will pass my old age by a pale two-bar fire
patiently waiting to die
twitching the lace as the schoolgirls go past
tracing a page of Bataille
and if you catch sight of my secondhand coat
leaving behind it a faint whiff of goat
remember both of us are naked underneath

I thought it would end with the first obscene phone call
the second professional kill
but somehow detached from my actual behaviour
this innocence burdens me still
up in the attic I pick up the brush
paint in the crow's feet, paint out the blush
the face this portrait is of is still capable of
the face this portrait is supposed to be of is still capable of

dredg - Planting Seeds

she's to blame
I'll erase routine
with a spark to ignite this flame
and end this struggle of guilt to tame
it's freedom I'll obtain
she tied me up
removed my crown
bittered all good taste
I'm sorry for everything I've done
I can't deny instinct

look what I have found
a seashell in a sea of shells
I'm good at planting my own seeds
to sprout an endless hell
it's dark like Poe

forgiveness came
we embraced the key
found water to douse the flame
we ended our difference of soul and brain
forever we are changed
we have just set out on a brand new race
can we keep the pace?
I can't believe what we have become
I'll leave without a trace

There is nothing worse than when someone posts lyrics and doesn't list the song and artist with it.  Never assume that everyone knows the song just by the lyrics off the top of their head.

Anyway:

Rush -  "The Pass"

Proud swagger out of the school yard
Waiting for the world's applause
Rebel without a conscience
Martyr without a cause

Static on your frequency
Electrical storm in your veins
Raging at unreachable glory
Straining at invisible chains

And now you're trembling on a rocky ledge
Staring down into a heartless sea
Can't face life on a razor's edge
Nothing's what you thought it would be

All of us get lost in the darkness
Dreamers learn to steer by the stars
All of us do time in the gutter
Dreamers turn to look at the cars
Turn around and turn around and turn around
Turn around and walk the razor's edge
Don't turn your back
And slam the door on me

It's not as if this barricade
Blocks the only road
It's not as if you're all alone
In wanting to explode

Someone set a bad example
Made surrender seem all right
The act of a noble warrior
Who lost the will to fight

And now you're trembling on a rocky ledge
Staring down into a heartless sea
Done with life on a razor's edge
Nothing's what you thought it would be

No hero in your tragedy
No daring in your escape
No salutes for your surrender
Nothing noble in your fate
Christ, what have you done?

The Antlers - Sylvia

Please, please calm down
Steady out, I'm terrified
Sorry, I want us to ally
But you swing on little knives
They're only sharp on one side

Let me do my job

Sylvia, get your head out of the oven
Go back to screaming and cursing
Remind me again how everyone betrayed you
Sylvia, get your head out of the covers
Let me take your temperature
You can throw the thermometer right back at me
If that's what you want to do, okay?

Sylvia, can't you see what you are doing?
Can't you see I'm scared to speak
And I hate my voice because it only makes you angry

Sylvia, I only talk when you are sleeping
That's when I tell you everything
And I imagine that somehow you're going to hear me

Bright Eyes - Cleanse Song -- a rarity in Conor Oberst's lyrics, being that they are positive

Hear the chimes, did you know that the wind when it blows
It is older than Rome and all of this sorrow
See the new Pyramids down in old Manhattan
From the roof of a friend's I watched an empire ending

Heard it loud and long, the river's Om
Time marching on to a mad man's drum

Don't forget what you've learned
All you give is returned
And if life seems absurd
What you need is some laughter
And a season to sleep
And a place to get clean
Maybe Los Angeles
Somewhere no one's expecting

On a detox walk through a Glendale Park over sidewalk chalk
Someone wrote in red, "Start over"

So I muffle my scream on an Oxnard beach
Full of fever dreams that scare you sober
Into saltless dinners

Take the fruit from the tree, break the skin with your teeth
Is it bitter or sweet? All depends on your timing
Like a meeting of chance
With the train station glance
Many lifetimes have passed in a instant reminded
Of a millstone house in a seaside town
When your heart gave out in a mission bed

So your wife gave birth to a funeral dirge
As you woke up purged as a wailing infant
In Krug Thep, Thailand

Hear the chimes, did you know that the wind when it blows
It is older than Rome and our joy and our sorrow

We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy
I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but
You're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it
And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye

Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

(Ooh, give you up)
(Ooh, give you up)
(Ooh)
Never gonna give, never gonna give
(Give you up)
(Ooh)
Never gonna give, never gonna give
(Give you up)

We've know each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but
You're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

The birds they sang
at the break of day
Start again
I heard them say
Don't dwell on what
has passed away
or what is yet to be.
Ah the wars they will
be fought again
The holy dove
She will be caught again
bought and sold
and bought again
the dove is never free.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.

We asked for signs
the signs were sent:
the birth betrayed
the marriage spent
Yeah the widowhood
of every government --
signs for all to see.

I can't run no more
with that lawless crowd
while the killers in high places
say their prayers out loud.
But they've summoned, they've summoned up
a thundercloud
and they're going to hear from me.

Ring the bells that still can ring ...

You can add up the parts
but you won't have the sum
You can strike up the march,
there is no drum
Every heart, every heart
to love will come
but like a refugee.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in.
That's how the light gets in.
That's how the light gets in.

Leonard Cohen - "Anthem"

The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Pink Floyd - "Time"

I really enjoy Steve h's lyrics in The Invisible Man and Neverland. Also, Territories by Rush contains my favourite lyrics by Neil.
... And you ask me: "Where's my hairspray?"
