Album Flats
« on: January 26, 2011, 09:02:43 PM »
I've got six album flats. The first person who posts agreeing to give me $20 for five of them gets them and the first person who posts after that gets the remaining one for free. Offer is good for North America only, sorry.  Offer expires three weeks from today.

Dream Theater -- Images and Words
Dream Theater -- Awake
Dream Theater -- Falling Into Infinity

Rush -- Counterparts
Rush -- Test for Echo
Rush -- Vapor Trails

I'll pay the $20 as long as I get the 3 DT ones.

"It's the 'case' or 'sleeve' where the record originally came in, usually when they are sold, they are autographed by the artist."

Close.....Album flats are 12X12 pictures of the album cover on the front and a unique design on the back on thin cardboard stock.

Back when there were record stores and record companies promoted records, these flats along with accompanying exclusive promotional posters would get sent to record stores for a display which would promote the album. In some cases, when the promotion was over you could buy the flats and the posters if the record store wanted to sell them.

Mine are not signed, but I'm sure they would look pretty cool if they were.

Should have been a bit more clear.
If DT89 is still interested, he gets to choose his five favorites and the one that is left will be sent to Orcus116 provided he wants it. If he doesn't, I guess we'll move down the list.

The older ones are actually 12.5 x 12.5.  Not sure about the Rush ones, but for the DT ones, I&W and Awake are 12.5 x 12.5 and FII is 12 x 12.  Seems like an insignificant difference, but I found out the hard way when I tried to buy frames for all of mine...

Haha, glad to see I'm not the only one who had no idea what an album flat was... I was gonna ask but I didn't want to look like an idiot.

Thanks, I'd forgotten about that.

The changeover appears to have happened around 1995 or so. When the flats shrunk they also were printed on a more glossy but thinner card stock.

Other than a Roll the Bones flat that hangs above the bedroom headboard (framed but with no glass to protect it) I don't have any album flats displayed.

Update:

orcus116 has not responded to my PM sent last week.

I'll give him a few more days and if there is still silence, we'll just move down the list until someone wants it.

lol.  just watched that episode, actually.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges
