5. Gregor Samsa - 55:12:

As the band themselves say about their music, “it's slow and sad, slow and happy, but never fast and anything” - It's a pretty apt description overall. Happy or sad, 55:12 is a slow, thoughtful, and beautiful album – thoughtful especially. Every song is composed and arranged perfectly, every second of music serving a purpose - the result is something that is exceptionally listenable. Whereas other albums in the genre require    a specific mindset or mood going in, 55:12 is an album that you can listen to pretty much any time, and it benefits greatly from it. To put it concisely, 55:12 is a stunningly beautiful album that every music fan should have.

From your recommendation Sigz, I listened to this album earlier this week and has since played it 3-4 times, and I have to agree with you on all points.
It's not quite Post-Rock and it's not quite Shoegaze or any other specific genre, it's a mix of everything good in music, and a fantastic album.  :heart

Yep this album is fantastic. Nearly always get an emotional response out of me...especially a sort of 'Wow, I can see things clearly now' type effect ;D . And despite Sigz' best pimpin' not many people seem to have this album yet   Get it people! Even if you have just a remote interest in post-rock.
on par with the anguish one would have from getting unconsensually bent over and buttloved.

Sigz, Massive Attack was really really good.  Crap.  It was so good.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges

Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

4. Porcupine Tree - Deadwing:

Probably the best example of just how much flow can contribute to an album. In Deadwing's case, not every song is perfect - Lazarus is kinda boring, Arriving Somewhere dies halfway through the song, and Glass Arm Shattering isn't all that interesting on it's own. However, in the context of the album, all of these songs are great. I can't imagine a better closer than Glass Arm Shattering, and Lazarus is a perfect break between the heavier Shallow and Halo.

Thus what you get at the end is an album of great songs. Maybe not so great on their own, but together they add up to a truly fantastic album.

It's a good album, but personally I think it is way too high here.  I'd put a few other albums from Porcupine Tree in a much higher ranking than this one.

Pretty much this.
Deadwing is a classic, but personally I prefer Signify, Fear of a Blank Planet and Up the Downstair at least. :P
Not surprised to see it though.

Lazarus is my favorite song on the album and it's not boring in the slightest.

Halo is the one that really brings the album down.  And Arriving Somewhere can drag too.

Halo and Shallow being so close to each other in the first half of the album is what drags it down somewhat for me. Never felt anything for either song. But Lazarus is excellent, the production on that track exemplifies what's so good about Deadwing; from literally the first second, it just sounds so warm.

The only part that drags so much that it becomes annoying is the second half of Arriving Somewhere.
Geez, talk about a song that's long for the sake of being long.

Lazarus and Arriving Somewhere are amazing on their own and in context of the album.  Of course, I'd put Lightbulb Sun over Deadwing, but I know DW's your favorite so I understand...

The only songs I actually mentioned were the weaker ones IMO :lol  TSOSB is probably my second favorite PT song of all time however, so it definitely deserves some mention.

I completely agree with what you said about the album as a whole making the worse songs bearable Sigz; that's also the exact opposite of how I feel about In Absentia, it's got awesome songs with no flow basically.

Halo is the one that really brings the album down.
I think it's that, Open Car, and Shallow.
