Hey everyone,

here's our brand-new press release. Yeah, yeah, I know, there's already an older thread about the Generation Prog event, but I thought I'd just post the press release in its entirety (we hadn't promoted the upcoming mini-festival to the international media yet). These are exciting times for us, moving from a studio project to a live band that's bigger than Relocator has ever been. Check out the video of our live keyboardist Sergej, I'm sure you'll be impressed! I could watch his take on the epic Aavishkar solo all day! :)

Anyway, here goes:

Relocator announce live replacement for Derek Sherinian
New sextet lineup to headline “Generation Prog” mini-festival

January 15, 2010

One year after the release of their internationally celebrated debut album, Relocator are finally ready to hit the stage. For their headlining performance at the first “Generation Prog live” event in Erlangen, the fusion proggers have assembled an international sextet lineup. The core group featured on the studio album stays intact: Project founders Stefan Artwin (guitar) and Michael Schetter (born Pruchnicki, bass) with Bartek Strycharski (electric violin) plus Frank Tinge from the Netherlands (drums). Joining them is another Dutchman, multi-instrumentalist Meinte Boersma (guitar, percussion), enabling the live band to do the dense arrangements of the album justice.

Newcomer Sergej Schamber takes the place of CD guest star Derek Sherinian

The addition of Sergej Schamber (Ocean Spout) to the live band finally answers an often posed question: “How are they going to play this stuff live without Derek Sherinian?”. The former Dream Theater keyboardist had recorded all the keyboard tracks for the Relocator debut as a special guest star, enabling the project members to wrap up the recording of the album without adding a full-time keyboardist. “Sherinian's ivory work across Relocator provides a mass of musical might”, wrote Ytsejam.com reviewer Tommy Hash. After the release of the album, Relocator finally found the perfect keyboardist to join them for live gigs. Sergej Schamber's ability to tackle the complex Relocator material and Derek Sherinian's stylish, virtuosic lead work is demonstrated in this video:

"Generation Prog live”: An evening of prog on an international level in Erlangen

The first concert in the “Generation Prog” series will feature Relocator alongside ProgRock Records artist Dante and newcomers Effloresce, who will be previewing material from the upcoming full-length followup to their 2009 debut EP Shades of Fate. This mini-festival will take place at the Omega in Erlangen, Germany, on February 11, 2011. To learn more about the performing artists or to pre-order tickets please visit the official Generation Prog website (German only):

Congrats, Kyo.  I wish you guys a lot of luck.  I like the music I've heard from Relocator.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Cool. Though I didn't realize Derek was more than just a session guy.

Cool. Though I didn't realize Derek was more than just a session guy.

He wasn't and the press release makes that pretty clear. But he was one of
the musicians who recorded the album and his playing shaped the music quite
a bit. People will (rightly) expect us to live up to that in a live setting, so we
needed someone who could do Derek's contributions to the studio disc justice.
This is not about adding some new guy who will then do his own thing musically.

Hey, best of luck to you guys and that's cool and all-- but I'd consider this 'more than a session guy.'

Well, Derek himself certainly doesn't.  :D

But now I see where you're coming from. I got a similar response in another thread that meant "hey, guys, he wasn't even IN the band, so how can the new guy be a replacement?", hence my reply. :)

Oh, and before I forget:

Congrats, Kyo.  I wish you guys a lot of luck.  I like the music I've heard from Relocator.

Thanks, man! :) I really appreciate it!
