The possible Susanne Sundfør thread
« on: January 15, 2011, 07:13:31 PM »
This is my attempt to bring you all the amazing music of Susanne Sundfør.  A Norwegian multi-instrumentalist and fantastic singer and writer.  Her music is just great!  It has a real noir feel to it, being very dark and brooding and often jazzy or electronic or all of the above.

she is good. I remember you talking about her last Summer, and there was 1 or 2 songs I was blown away by. I actually checked out her new album last year, and remember liking some of it, although I also checked out her previous album and I recall enjoying that one a little more.

But her new album was 1 of a few records I meant to revisit at the end of 2010, that I never got around to. I should do that soon.

Her new album is one that takes some warming up to.  I remembered not liking all of it at once.  Some of the synth heavy tracks take some adjustment.  You could check out some of the Grooveshark links I left, those are a few of the best on the 2010 album.

hey, I went ahead and put The Brothel on yesterday at work. I like it, although I think it does have a little bit of a samey-ness to it at times. But the orchestral/string arrangements namely do work well at times. The closing track "Father Father" I think is the strongest.

I guess maybe I thought/posted this when I 1st heard her. She sounds a helluva lot like Jeff Buckley at times. She's almost like doing mostly piano-driven singer/songwriter music as a female Buckley crossed with a bit of Annie Haslam (Renaissance) or some other female singers I've heard. Or the other one that comes to mind, is the often described as heavily-Buckley influenced Scott Matthews.

I should revisit her previous album Take One again as I remember liking some if not more of that one initially.

Nice, didn't realise there was a thread for her.

The Brothel might be in my top 5 of last year now, it's just amazing. Knight of Noir is my favourite, but the title track, It's All Gone Tomorrow and Father Father are all incredibly strong.

Oh hi, old thread.

Anyway, Knight of Noir seems a favorite of most of the people I've introduced her to.

Personally, I think Father Father might be one of the greatest songs ever.  It's so fucking perfect.

I can see the love for Father Father, I just don't feel it as much as the others.

AND WHY SANDER WHY?! HER AND THOMAS DYBDAHL IS NOT FAIR

Also, I can't find her debut album anywhere, legally or otherwise.

I've been wanting to get into her, but she falls under the category "artists so indie that music is not obtainable, even if you do it illegally".  :sadpanda:

My comps been a douche lately. It's been overheating while listening to music, so I can only listen to a couple songs in a row. Also, I've been a little busy lately.

Make sure you're aware:  Take One is not an actual album.  Every song on it is a rough first take of the songs on her self titled.  It's probably not worth buying (it's a great release for hardcore fans), though the actual Self Titled is amazing and beautiful and is definitely worth having.

Listened to The Brothel earlier, and love at first listen seriously.
Not a single bad song, and many songs that seemed to click right away.

Seth, would you possibly be able to direct me to a place where I could... acquire her self titled? No combination of Google terms is yielding anything other than The Brothel.

That's actually a very good question.  It's tough to get for anyone who isn't in Norway.  I'll post a link if I find one.

Also, sign up for https://www.susannesundfor.com/turkish-delights/ for a chance to win a signed vinyl copy of the album!

Listened to The Brothel.

Not blown away. Some pleasant tunes though, like Knight of Noir (arguably best track on the album).
