( ) is one of the greatest albums of all time in my opinion. The different moods it takes the listener through in only 70 minutes is just incredible. Vaka and Popplagiđ are my favourites I think.

I couldn't rank them. 3 and 8 transcend the others though.

Didn't you do a "top20 Sigur Rós"-thread some while ago? because that would contradict your statement.

Nope, wasn't me. Even though I have listened to them a bazillion times, I would have a way too hard time ranking their songs.

I did one, yes. And I believe I only included 3, 8 and 4 because of the acoustic version. I couldn't rank the others.

I've discovered that listening to Sigur Rós is a bit hard for me, when i do - i love it, but it requires me to be in a certain mood, to fully appreciate the music.
It kinda makes all my emotions emerge to the surface, and that isn't always a good thing.
Even though it's really hard, i would say that Milano is my favorite song, the climax/chorus in that song gives me goosebumps! :)
Only heard Takk and ( ), they are both amazing in 2 different ways.

"Popplagiđ" (Untitled 8) live is still one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.  The way that song kept building and building, before exploding into that frantic conclusion, was something you had to see to believe.  :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

Just listened to Takk for the first time. Definitely going to be looking for more!

Me: "How?"

Watched Heima this morning. Beautiful... and a little bit boring. This documentary/whateveritis gave me more reasons to go to Iceland than Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

The thing about Ára bátur is... It's this thing Sigur Rós had always wanted to do... Record a song using a full orchestra in Abbey Road, and well, they did, but it just seems a little forced to me. It's a very nice song, but for some reason it lacks some emotion that is omnipresent in AB and ( ).

I agree with this. To me, it just relies on the 7-minute crescendo and almost nothing else, and it just doesn't do anything to me. Now the build-up in Viđrar Vel Til Loftarása for instance feels much more natural and emotional, and it works a lot better.
... And you ask me: "Where's my hairspray?"

Definitely! Viđrar Vel Til Loftarása is one of Sigur Rós' strongest stand-alone tracks.

The peak of that song was such a letdown for me, because it had been building very nicely to that point, and then the orchestra comes in and it's so tacky and Disney-esque and everything that the peak in a Sigur Ros song normally isn't.

I'm with Kari, Samskeyti is probably my favourite thus far. (that was probably mispelt, I'm tired) Hoppipolla is excellent though, although I guess I love it so much because I'm still a casual fan basically.

I agree and disagree. To me it changes day by day. It's such a great climax, cheesy, forced, very much expected, but still it's great. To me it's the best centrepoint an album could have. Add an opener like Gobbledigook and a closer like All Allright, and you have a great, great album.

You spelled Samskeyti right and Hoppípolla almost, so don't worry! :D
Well, I first fell in love with Hoppípolla, and then I fell in love with Glósóli. It's got everything you'd expect in a Sigur Rós song. Whenever I introduce someone to them I either put on Hoppípolla or Glósóli.

Really? I don't really like either of those. Glosoli is nice, especially with the video, but nothing really special, imo. Hopipolla is one of the songs I usually skip when listening to Sigur Ros.

I usually refrain from talking about Sigur Ros, but that's mostly because I think they make the most perfect music out there (well, along with Björk ;)) and I honestly can't find anything I don't like about anything they've made.

Actually the original Von (just the song) is pretty okay, as is Hafssól. I can't remember how any of the others go though.

Just listen to the opener on Von. It takes 9 minutes, but it feels like a lifetime. Only when I'm really in the perfect mood for it, I can sit through it. And even then, it's only 'to sit through'.

The newest album is very different for them, but I really love it!  It kind of sounds like they took the poppiness of Takk... one step further with more accessible songs.  Despite that, the same emotion is there which is what really keeps me listening.
