The Official Football (Soccer) Thread (v. It's starting again!)
« on: January 07, 2011, 07:50:30 AM »
Never seen much talk about this sport around here, mainly i guess because there's a lot of Americans here, and the sport isn't very big over there. :P
You call it soccer, but i won't do that because it will always be "football" over here.
So, anyone who follows a particular team or something?
I'm a Man United-fan myself, mainly follow Premier League since i think both the Spanish and Italian-leagues are a bit lame.

Ah, my favourite sport. Man United fan here as well, Premier League is my main league to follow. I've always enjoyed the British football.

Great Thread!!! I don't think it will get a lot of posts though but still. I am from Argentina so yeah... I just love this sport.
I agree with you, the Spanish and Italian leagues are getting kinda boring since it comes to two or maybe three teams. But I have to say that if I have to choose one team, it has to be Barcelona. It's just beautiful. Plus, Messi plays there. The best there is!!
When Ginobili gets hot, I get hot in my pants.

Real Madrid fan here... pretty upset by a lot of events surrounding our club in the last few years (not too fond of the last presidents we've had and the roster management), and with Barcelona being as good as they are right now, not a lot to cheer for :/

But hey, through the good and bad, right?

My favorite team is Real Madrid and the Spanish League is the one I follow the most, but the Premier League is 1000x better, there are no boring matches.

What i love about Premier League, is that even though in most cases the "big" teams win, every team has a chance against them.
Love it how teams like Newcastle and W.Bromwich have beaten Arsenal, Wolves have beaten Chelsea and so on, really makes the whole league great.  :tup

I don't watch sports at all really, but I always watch the Eurocup and the World Cup since it gives me an excuse to go to a bar at noon and cheer for my home country.

Bump.

So this last day of Silly Season is really interesting so far, Torres to Chelsea and Carroll to Liverpool? :P
Rumors also suggest that Charlie Adam in Blackpool is close to Pool as well, obviously a lot of this is speculations, but the last hours of this day will be very interesting.  ;D

This. I also follow the German Bundesliga a bit (although I haven't watched a game of it in years), but the EC and WC are a definite must for me.

I want to start seriously following premier league games. I love football, but the lack of coverage in the US is shitty. The thing is, I can't follow a sport unless I have a team to support

Convince me to support a team guys. Go :P

Manchester United is the better team over there. Avoid Chelsea at all costs.

One vote for Man United

I can only name about 5 off the top of my head, but if there are any others that you guys support (if at all), I'd like to hear your arguments.

Manchester United, but really almost EVERY game from the Premier League is awesome.
I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

It's 5 in the morning!

I'd recommend you go for one of the Champion's League teams, but I kinda hate them. Go with Newcastle, cus Northerners are awesome.

Avoid Chelsea and Man City at all costs tbh, if you're mainly interested in the attacking-part of the game, I'd say Arsenal and Spurs (Tottenham) are the two teams that plays the most "fun" football.

Zantera got it right, Arsenal and Spurs probably play the nicest football, although Man Utd are good too. But supporting Utd is generic and boring, especially for non-Brits.

Support Arsenal (my team). We rock!

Spaniard here, Liverpool all the way. THIS IS ANFIELD, BITCH. Plus they finally got rid of Torres, I really hate him (he almost cost us the World Championship).

I can easily understand that now, but I was around 7 or 8 years old when I started to like Man United, and back then I didn't even know if it was a good team or not. :P
It's fun because my dad is an Arsenal-fan, and every weekend when we watch football, he's always so negative, like "maybe Arsenal can at least get one point against Wolves" or something.  :lol

I started to root for Man United after their treble win in 1999 (PL, FA cup, CL) and been a fan ever since. Giggs and Scholes are my favourites, but they will be retiring soon. Although Giggs seems to be able to play for another 20 years ;D

:lol Yeah Arsenal fans can be pretty negative; it's because our team is so unpredictable, but that makes being a fan more fun and exciting I think.

Although this season everyone has been useless and unpredictable. It's been a weird season.

I think we should make this the official Premier League thread. It's nice to be able to discuss it on the forum. :tup

But supporting Utd is generic and boring, especially for non-Brits.

It's about the same for Bayern Munich fans in the German Bundesliga. Those teams mostly get supported because they keep winning everything (luckily, this season might mix it up a little bit). ManU plays some nice football, though. However, I have to say that I don't follow the Premier League that much.
