I stopped watching the Sweden - Nigeria match after the first half, but now I'm regretting I did!  :blush

I had to get to sleep after the first one, but I am disappoint that they lost a 2-0 lead and only got 3-3. Half of the team got cramp in their legs, blamed it on the fake grass on the pitch...

Aren't Swedish players used to playing on artificial grass  ;) Yeah well, it was an entertaining game for sure!

Hopefully with that sexist pig Blatter out of the equation, that whole artificial turf idea will be nixed forever.

BTW, can someone explain to me how games like "1D vs 3BEF" work? What's team "3BEF"? I mean, you can't compare the 3rd places of the different groups, can you? They never played each other.

Just another FIFA cluster F. Once they decided to add teams to the world cup field. They also changed the yellow card rule which is another cluster f.  That said, I have basically watched every game, and despite my despise they are playing on artificial turf, it has been a great cup.

So USA beat Germany in a friendly, 2-1. That's pretty impressive beating them and Netherlands back to back like that. Don't really care if it's a friendly, I still think it's impressive. Hoping maybe they'll reach higher in 2018!

Once the USA decides it wants to take a particular sport seriously, it generally pumps resource in and it's not very long until it's one of the best teams in the world. :lol

I can't see that happening with soccer, they seem to want to ridicule it every chance they get.

Props to FC Barcelona for their treble, winning the Champions League, La Liga, and the Copa del Rey all in the span of a month. It's absolutely incredible.

Not a words for us? We so close to winning the treble as well  :(

The US played well, and it's good to see they're getting better under Klinsi (who sang both anthems, lol).
That said though, Germany was definitely only really trying in the first half, to save their key players for the game on the weekend. Most of them are tired from the regular season and had to interrupt their vacation for the game.
So, kudos to the US, but Germany has a history of losing friendlies, because we use them to try out things.

That was an awful game.

I'm definitely also rooting for the US, but they better step up their game if they want to win this thing.

Saw it was 0-0, obviously you get good 0-0 games but from your reaction it sounds like it was pretty dreary.

England - Mexico tonight!

It was dreary, yeah. In 90 minutes, there were only two actual chances in front of the goal for the US, and even those were total clusterfuck. The Swedish had no chance during the whole game.

Germany-Gibraltar!

Germany-Gibraltar!

I'll be watching this one!

I wanted to see Ireland - Scotland instead, but I had to work today, so I won't be able to get to the pub in time. Germany - Gibraltar it is. :tup

Jeeesus. Germany is not world champion material right now, that's for sure.

EDIT: Wow, way to turn the game around!

USA should progress easily enough tonight.

I was thinking that it's harsh for Netherlands to have come third on goals scored, with the same points and goal difference as China. But I forgot the WWC has fewer groups than the men's WC, so some of the third place teams get through. They have a chance yet!

Not all third places get through though, right? Like, Germany will play "3rd of group B/C/D " or something, which means they're somehow selecting from those groups. Based on points, goal difference? No matter the selection method, it will be inherently unfair, since it's comparing apples and oranges.

Looked it up afterwards, yeah. It's first total points, then goal difference. So, unless the remaining games come out really badly, Netherlands are still in.

The US better win tonight. Because that will get them to the correct "arm" of the bracket, where, if both Germany and the US keep winning in the knockout stages, I will see them play against each other in Montreal. That would be beyond awesome.

Hmm. While I'm very happy the US came out top of the group, they really only barely did so. They played #33 in the world today, and for 20 minutes that team was even a man down, and yet they still successfully attacked the US. I don't know, for the second best team in the world this won should have been a lot easier.
