I had to miss every single game yesterday and it seems like I missed some of the most exciting games

after Spain, Colombia is probably my favourite team to root for so this was kinda sad, but my bro told me they played pretty good for a 10-man team so I haven't lost all hope yet.

Russia though, 6 points, wow! Albeit against a clearly inferior country and one that hasn't been in the world cup for decades (?), this WC has proven that it's not that easy to secure points against average teams when the pressure is on.

Now every team has played at least once and the big teams didn't really convince in their first match. Sadly, worst of all was Germany

Belgium had one good half against Panama and England wasn't bad, but both have to show they can play well against stronger opponents too.

So Spain didn't get the chance to move upward because of goal difference... now they'll face Morocco who'll play only for the honor, while Portugal will face Iran with nothing to lose and the knowledge that if they pull the performance of a lifetime, they qualify.

All of this to go against Russia or Uruguay in the round of 16.

Both Spain and Portugal slacking against teams we thought they should have no trouble beating. At this point, I can still see Iran sneaking in a 2nd place spot if they play like I was told they did at the end of the Spain game (unfortunately didnt see it so cant judge for myself).

France was kinda disappointing, cant believe i predicted them as the runner-up of the entire tournament

I feel bad for teams like Iran, Morocco & Peru. These are solid teams that play like they want to win yet they are basically out

I've got to agree with this. So far it could be anyone's cup. France, while unimpressive, gets the job done. They have a very solid defense and so much talent in offense that they compensate for the lack of game-playing. I think they could be the ones to get this.
I'm also expecting the German machinery to start working properly soon.

I feel absolutely dreadful for Messi. This Argentina team is absolutely a shadow of their former selves that reached the final in 2014, and even that side was quite flawed. It's borderline embarrassing... the potential greatest player of all time only getting ~20 touches in the opponent's half is downright shambolic-- there's no creativity, no service, and not even a semblance of team chemistry. Sampaoli and his coaching staff should be ashamed for fielding one of the weakest midfield formations that Argentina has ever fielded. Ugh, I am just so disappointed.
