Jesus Christ himself* comes down amidst a choir of 2 billion angels singing Handel's Hallelujah chorus. As KrotchRaut shred randomly on guitars made of dragon bones using picks made from God's kidney stones, Jesus heals a blind woman who promptly gives birth onstage to a creation of pure light.

*Yes, Jesus Christ himself. Nothing less will do.

Man I can't rank this album... All the songs are really good. My least favorites are probably Epoch and Mile Zero though.
I only listen to electro-post dubprog.  You've probably never heard of it.

This album is the bees knees. I love it I love it I love it. It's way beyond what I expected from the band. No way can I rank the songs though. I saw Periphery at Download Festival this year and they were amazing, tight and loud and awesome. Looking forward to seeing them with BTBAM and The Safety Fire this winter too!

How funny, I was literally just searching the internet for this but gave up after I couldn't find anything. Then I went directly here and found this.

Thanks man.

Also related to the last video. The set he is playing was JUST for the MEINL Drum Fest. He is keeping his normal setup for shows.

The normal set is pretty cool. I like the simplistic-minded kit.

Also, obligatory song ratings:

Ragnarok
Facepalm Mute
The Gods Must Be Crazy!
Masamune
Scarlet
Ji
Erised
Froggin Bullfish
Mile Zero
Have A Blast
MAKE TOTAL DESTROY
Muramasa
Epoch

I'd also like to add it was hard as hell to do ratings, considering all the songs are great. Not a bad song on the album, IMHO.

Epoch, Muramasa, and Make Total Destroy were the only songs I liked. I guess results may vary when ranking Periphery songs.

I just don't like Meshuggah or core-ish sounding stuff. The only reason I like MTD is that it has some catchy melodies. I like parts of Ragnarok and Erised to, but idk, I just can't get into this album and think it's not as good as the debut.

How could anyone not love the hypnotic trippiness of Epoch? I had that shit on a constant loop for hours.

People generally love it, but mostly like the other Periphery songs better on the CD. I absolutely love Epoch, but its just not as good as the other songs on the CD, IMHO.

And if you love Epoch, check out Jake's solo electronic music. He wrote Epoch by himself and posts electronic songs on his soundcloud from time to time.

From what I understand and have read, he plans to do a full CD depending on when he has enough time to do so! I know many, many people would like to see that, including myself.

not the only reason for liking it here, but i was gonna point out the vocal melodies to chrisbDTM on why Make Total is upper echelon material.

because i like talking about this cd: what's everyone's favorite parts?

i'll go song by song, ill try to pick one from each, even though it's incredibly hard, probably hardest to do with Ji

Muramasa - "To Ourselves!" - Spencer starting the album off
Have A Blast! - 2:01 to 2:56 - such a good chorus. ludatshit
Facepalm Mute - chorus - so strong
Ji - 1:20 - transition from the first chorus and the verse after
LAAC - 1:28 - coming out of the crazy techish riff into an equally awesome verse riff
Ragnarok - 1:49 - I knew from the studio updates that this part was going to be sofa king heavy
The Gods Must Be Crazy! - end of the first chorus "take pleasure in the siIIGHT!"
MTD - YES WE REDUCE THEM ALL TO BONES
Erised - choruses
Epoch - all of it is solid, hard to find a distinct 'part'
Froggin Bullfish - "or be deTAINEDDD!" at 3:18
Mile Zero - 3:25 verse and Wes' perfect solo
Masamune - 1:12 and the verse after - beautiful, love the whispered "fucking grim and frostbitten"

Songs in order and favorite part(s):

1. Have a Blast - Chorus and riffs at 3:51 (Maj9 stuff)
2. Erised - The groove Matt lays down, mixed with clean guitars and slightly calmer distorted guitars
3. Muramasa - The whole band entrance and the brutal growls
4. MAKE TOTAL DESTROY - the HUGE harmonies at 2:16, juxtaposed with DJENT DJENT DJENT, as well as the BONES part
5. Masamune - The kinda dominant seven feel they have going during the chorus-like part, key change at 3:10, and hellish outro
6. Ragnarok - Pick rake at 1:49
7. Ji - I-iv section.
8. Froggin' Bullfish - goofy riff at 1:46. One of my favorite Misha riffs
9. Luck As a Constant - Misha and Jake's tradeoff solos
10. Facepalm Mute - buildup to first chorus and soaring choruses
11. The Gods Must be Crazy! - the wild section at 1:35
12. Epoch - Dreamy part where percussion drops out at 1:20 and that it's an absolute blast to jam over
13. Mile Zero - the huge chords (and how crystal-clear they are)!
14. Scarlet - Bridge at 2:10

Here is mine:

1. Ragnarok - this song just starts so strong. I love the strangely-timed/played lead that comes in right at the beginning following the opening fill. The way they reprise some of the lyrics and themes from Muramasa is pretty cool, especially over that riff they are playing at that particular point at the time. The Racecar-esque interlude at the end of track is really cool, even though we'll never hear it live. Such a great song overall.
2. Ji - Spencer adds so much to the chorus here and the final fantasy section/mrak's riff solo in the middle of the song really defines the song. Its very groovy and it has really grown on me the most since I heard it for the first time when the album has released.
3. Facepalm Mute - Spencer rules this song. Dat chorus.
4. Erised - The grooves in this song are awesome. Spencer is great on vocals and JP's guest solo is very good, especially the bend at the end of the 'Erotomania-type' ending.
5. Luck As A Constant - The opening riff and then the solos by Misha and Jake.
6. Scarlet - Mrak and Sponce. Nuff said.
7. MAKE TOTAL DESTROY - The grooves here rule as well. Spencer's vocals really shine, especially his cleans.
8. Have A Blast - the chorus really rules in this song as well as all the riffs. Such a great tune.
9. The Gods Must Be Crazy! - Jake's solo rules.
10. Froggin' Bullfish - the opening riff/solo and then Spencer's vocals.
11. Mile Zero - Spencer's vocals/lyrics really dominate this song. His best lyrics on the album, imho.
12. Masamune - THAT OUTRO
13. Muramasa - The intro is different for Periphery, but they did it right and it works. Such a great opener.
14. Epoch - awesome little tune by Jake. I want to hear more like this in Periphery (and not just through Jake's solo project!)

I'd also like to mention that every song on this album rules and it is extremely difficult to even attempt these rankings. Even though songs like Mile Zero and Masamune are near the bottom of my lists, they are still FANTASTIC songs. This album has managed to age incredibly well for me. I honestly don't ever remember a single album aging as good as this one has one month after its release. I fully expect this album to be in my top 3 albums of all the time soon. I think I need more time to determine that.

As of right now, the album is definitely the album of the year, but we'll see if the new BTBAM CD has anything to say about that.

Finally, I really love this record. P2 was such a huge success for the guys in Periphery. They really could not have hit a better ball out of the park than this. I really feel so happy for the guys in the band and for their huge first week sales (12,000 units, I believe). I hope Juggernaut ends up bringing them the same success whenever it happens to be released.
