Nah, i read that its the earlier 3 albums, but i thought pretty much like this:
"hey, i love the new album, whats better then buying a box containing their 3 earlier ones being performed live?"

Because live-performances are more 'special', then also i'm a music-collector as well, when it comes to bands i really like/love, i buy their stuff that i can get my hands on.
The fact that the box is limited to 5000 copies is another 'carrot' for me, because then i would feel happy that i'm one of those 5000 owning what's hopefully a great piece of art. :)

Oh it is, some, er, 'interesting' camera angles sometimes because of the tiny venue but it looks and sounds great and gives a fantastic impression of what the band is all about.

So wish I'd been there but sadly that weekend was just absolutely horrific timing for me  :'(

I really feel for you, especially knowing they're your favorite band.
But i saw they're playing several London-dates on their current tour, so maybe you could see them one or a few times now and get some redemption. :)

I've already seen them 6 times tbf! And I'm seeing them twice on this tour just coming up...being at those nights would just be so special though. Ah well, I've got them on DVD and that's the next best thing I suppose!

SPWTBFU is just amazing, all songs are good or better, with most being the latter.
Took a few listens to click though, but it's a good thing - i prefer music that grows on you, rather then the typical radio-music where there isn't really much more to 'grab' from the song the second time.
I'll agree that it isn't the typical 'new wave progressive'-music (with bands like Porcupine Tree & Riverside for example), more like art-rock with progressive, post-rock and metal influences.
But genre aside, the music is very much like a journey, especially the more post-rock influenced songs.
It's too soon to tell how high Oceansize will climb between my favorite bands, but this album is just brilliant, and i'm sure that the older stuff will grow on me as well, now when im giving it a more honest chance. :)

It's hard picking out favorite-songs from the album, but my highlights would be Superimposer, which is a brilliant song from start to finish, and Silent/Transparent which is a journey, and more epic then most progressive-songs i know. ;)

So, today i listened to both 'Effloresce' and 'Everyone Into Position' for the first time.
Effloresce struck me the most with some really amazing songs, but overall its too soon to tell, this is a band that you should give several listens before making up your mind. ;)

My album-ranking right now:
1. Self Preserved While the Bodies Float Up
2. Effloresce
3. Everyone Into Position
4. Frames

 :)

Halfway through Self Preserved While the Bodies Float Up. It's fucking awesome, and that's all I have to say about it, really. It's incredibly solid so far, this band has yet to make a dud, it seems.

I don't think I'll like it more than I do Effloresence, though I'm not done with the album yet, and it's pretty damn close.

And they broke into my top 30 on last.fm :hat I can see them reaching the top 8 rather quickly. Such a goddamn excellent band.

Also, I swear I hear Pain of Salvation's Idioglossia in Oceansize's Saturday Morning Breakfast Show.

I need another Oceansize album.

I have Effloresce, which is incredibly amazing and all. Which of the other 3 should I go for next?

Go chronologically.

Also, how is Ornament/The Last Wrongs so good?  It's just the best thing ever, and I need to know why...

I listened to the first track of the other 3 albums.

I want Frames next after that.
Also please don't tell me the whole Self-Preserved is like Part Cardiac. It wasn't a bad song but it's not what I think about when I think about Oceansize's sound <.<

The album does seem much more sludgy than the previous albums, as far as I've heard so far...

Yeah, it is pretty sludgy. But great. Give Oscar Acceptance Speech, Build Us a Rocket Then..., It's My Tail and I'll Chase It If I Want To, and Silent/Transparent a listen.

Home and Minor is much lighter, if that's what you want.  All of their albums have had light and heavy dynamics, Self-Preserved just takes it to a new level.

So far Self-Preserved sounds absolutely fantastic to me.  Build us a Rocket Then and Oscar Acceptance Speech really stick out so far (the latter is exceptionally beautiful) , Silent/Transparent is more of the "traditional" Oceansize sound, I think, It's My Tail and I'll Chase It If I Want To is not much like anything they've ever done.

Not exactly looking forward to buying an EP anytime soon.
I'm just going to go ahead and get Frames - though I'd probably like the other two anyways.

I'm honestly really surprised how much praise this new album has got. I'm not just saying on this forum, but on most of the boards I'm on, I see people gushing over it.

I've said it elsewhere, but not here. It's not a bad record, but it's clearly more different than any of their others, that it's just not demanding I go back to it, nor is it as memorable.

It's a weak 4-star record at best, and for a band who seem/ed on the verge at making their 1st masterpiece, it's a bit disappointing. Perhaps it'll age better, but for now, I can't help but be surprised how much I can't agree with a lot of reviews of it.

Instead of going on and on about the same things, just check my review of the album under the reviews-part of the forum. ;)

Album-wise i'd say either the newest (Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up) if you wanna hear more where they're going, or Effloresce, which IMO sums up their earlier sound pretty good.

It's not easy giving you specific songs, because they cover a lot of ground, and a song wouldn't fairly represent the whole band.
Kinda like with PT.

Amazing band though, so checking them out is a wise thing.  :tup

Probably Everyone into Position is the best starting point, although Frames and Effloresce are the best albums.

Unfamiliar is a nice introduction song...

Everyone Into Position is such an amazing album, Music For a Nurse is like the perfect song.
8 minutes of eargasm.
Funny enough, Frames is the only album i haven't been able to get fully into yet.
But considering the love i've developed for the band, im saving it for last, then i will probably 'get' it.  :)

I randomly bought Effloresce a few weeks ago.. really liking it actually, interesting mix of melody and heaviness (a'la PTree) but still different. I'll prob buy their relases in order..

I'm far from familiar with all their songs, but setlist looks pretty good.
Some amazing songs lacking, but that's always the case with good bands. :)

My favorite-songs this far:

1. Music For a Nurse
2. Silent/Transparent
3. Superimposer

They have a lot of long & epic tracks that i haven't 'learned' yet, im thinking particularly on Frames, the last 2 songs on Everyone Into Position, and a few on Effloresce.

Still not entirely blown away by SPWTBFU.  It's good, yes.  but not mind-numbing like the way the others are.
