Personally, getting the most technically proficient drummer doesn't matter to me.  I want DT to get the guy whose personality most clicks with the other band members and who they most enjoy being around.  That chemistry will lead to a great ability to work together and great music, and keep DT "fun" for the band members.

I love this post, and can't understand why it's so hard for people to accept such simple common sense.

But this IS the internet so yeah...

Thanks, man!  Btw, I just visited Mangini's website (www.mikemangini.com) and he posted an update yesterday.  I didn't see this posted anywhere so here it is.  Sounds like he's home to me, not in the studio with DT.

"I am attempting to finally settle the new recording gear so it works. A totally upgraded drum kit is up and running as well. The EPro and come custom pads really open a world of sounds with both the hands and feet. This is crazy fun!"

One thing i've been thinking.. Mangini has been posting alot about upgrading his studio. If he's the new drummer, maybe he's doing that so that they can record his drums in his own studio? D

I think he's last message was about upgrading his gear not his studio...

That is your problem  ::),

I am waiting for another masterpiece from DT!!!
The chemistry between musicians is the key factor,
No one can judge what is good or wrong, before actually hearing the music.
I really think that this new CD could be really original and fresh,
some of the best musicians in the world are working on it  :tup

Lang for me, but I feel it's unlikely. He's not even dropped thhe slightest hint that it could be him, and he tweets more than MP. Seems to have a good sense of humour too.

Everything I'm typing is just for speculation.
[Flame shield ON]  :flame:

Mangini certainly impacted DT enough to win over all of the other guys who auditioned.  I hope they move in a great direction with this new album, however I view Mangini as a bit cliché compared to Marco/Wildoer.
When discussing the choice of Marco/Wildoer/Mangini in EP3, JP alone seemed to give Wildoer the axe, without really giving much of a reason, other than "he wasn't on the same psychic level."  That is fine, but then what of Minneman/Mangini?  What made Marco not the right choice of the two?  While watching Marco, I was really starting to feel confident that if he was chosen, we would get a younger, fresher, different approach to DT for the next album.  I didn't really have those same idea's when watching Mangini audition.  Marco/Wildoer felt like a different pair of shoes, so to speak, on the band.  Mangini feels like same brand of shoe, just a bit different style; the 'safe' choice, without a lot of variation.

The next album will be excellent (i'm sure), Mangini will prove to be the best fit, and I will be wrong about everything above that I just typed.  But for some reason I can't shake some of the suspicion about this.
Don't know where you live, but if your ever in Berkeley, dinner's on me.  Thanks man!!!
