I would have sent my song yesterday, but my power was out most of the day and by the time it was back I had completely forgotten. Anyway, sent.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

I have all the songs now but I won't be able to update my roulette until tuesday, because I have plenty of school work to do before Christmas break. Since I'll do 8 rounds, view that as a little gap between the first half and the second. I'll continue with full speed after that! :tup

Round 5: Epic songs. The songs were longer than usual so heh. Also, I decided that I don’t want songs from a band I already know/a band that you send me a song of anymore. I’ll let it pass for this round but HEY

5 points

TheVoxyn - Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Sleep: Amazing track, really great stuff. I can’t believe I didn’t get into these guys earlier since they’re from Montréal. This post-rock piece features two big climaxes. I don’t quite know how to describe this track, but it was definitely epic. I loved everything about it.

4 points

Letters - Karnivool - New Day: Great song. I especially loved the vocals in this one, not just the chorus but also in the verses. The production was really good too. The way the guitar parts were orchestrated, the bass lines, that kind of stuff. And the final part is just epicness in happy can.

Zantera - Oceansize - The Frame: Again, great song. That one was epic in the sense that there really was an evolution, or a crescendo from the beginning to the end of the track. The lyrics were really good, with a great performance by the singer, in particular with the chorus.

3 points

Sigz - The Angelic Process - Burning in the Undertow of God: Awesome stuff, very different from the other submissions. A bit of a drone metal piece, with dissonant guitars and memorable drum parts. The dissonance of the heavy part made it sound really great in contrast to the soothing vocals.

Lat - Dimmu Borgir - Spellbound (By the Devil): I quite enjoyed this one. This band definitely has an orchestral approach to their music, and the aggressiveness of black metal makes it a great mix. The vocals were great, the riffs were heavy and while the song was short, the epicness was there.

2 points

SDN - Coheed and Cambria - The Willing Well IV: The Final Cut: Pretty good prog rock song there. The vocals were a bit of a turn-off at the beginning but I quickly got used to it. And while the solos section worked fine in the context of the song, I felt like it took off the momentum a bit. The acoustic section at the end was pretty cool though.

Portrucci - A Forest of Stars - Sorrow’s Impetus: This track was a weird kind of black metal. I quite enjoyed the different sections of the song and I really got an epic feel of it. I just didn’t had the impression that the parts worked that well together as a whole, and some of it sounded a bit samey to me.

1 point

Sonata - Giant Claw - Eraser’s Fantasy pt. I: So that was pretty interesting! Some kind of electro-prog or whatever. I quite liked the original use of different sounds through the song. There was a certain rawness that worked really well too. However, it didn’t feel epic to me at all.

Sonata: 17 points
Zantera: 17 points
SDN: 16 points
Sigz: 16 points
TheVoxyn: 14 points
Lat: 14 points
Letters: 13 points
Portrucci: 12 points

Next round (6): Instrumental. If anyone needs to know the other rounds in advance please PM me.

So I haven't decided yet, but since Letters already sent you a Buckethead song (Damn it Letters, I was waiting for an instrumental round to send him Buckethead) should I refrain from that? I mean, I'm not hinting at what I'm sending, but you know, hypothetically speaking :p

I already got two ""Buckethead"" songs in the sense that he played in the Deli Creeps track aswell. So yeah, I want some other stuff. :tup But it would be nice if you could PM me the Buckethead song nonetheless! :)

Yeah, I completely understand. Though I could make the argument about how the man is so fucking varied in style, but I'll respect the rules. Something else it is (which is funny, because at least 90% of the instrumental stuff is from the metric shit ton of Buckethead I have). Time to find my entry.

Ah, maybe the problem with sending it was that the song I sent you was sort of the overture to the other songs on the album. But I couldn't send in the whole album, so :P

Gorille: That song is actually pretty atypical for Coheed, but I submitted it for the epic round because of Claudio's powerful vocals on that song.  Plus, those solos.  Wowzers.  Thinking about an instrumental that I don't think anyone here knows about.
