Cars Reunion
« on: December 04, 2010, 03:58:19 PM »
Don't know how I missed this, but late 70's-early 80's power pop band The Cars have reunited and are in the studio working on a new album. Growing up in the 70's and 80's, I LOVED the Cars. A mix of punk, rock-a-billy, and synth driven "pop", they are one of the few pop/new wave bands of my generation that I enjoyed, much less tolerated. While I know they can't recreate that old hit driven magic of the 80's (and why go back anyway?), I'm excited to hear what they come up with. Ocasec has produced a ton of quality stuff for the last 20 years, and I'm sure he still has plenty of magic left for his own band. Word has it that instead of replacing Bejamin Orr, keyboardist Greg Hawkes will assume bass duties as well.  :metal

Whenever I hear the Cars, I think of the pool scene from Fast Times.  Go figure.

When I here the Cars, I flashback to my dad and I taking a trip to Battleship cove in Fall River, Mass in the late 70's.  Good to see them getting together again.

Hard to imagine this being very worthwhile without Benjamin Orr, who according to many was the best live performer (while the rest of the band was supposedly boring).  I am sure many will want to see them play their many hits, so this will probably go well, but despite being a fan, I can't get excited at all.
