The Pendulum Appreciation-Thread
« on: December 03, 2010, 10:42:28 AM »
I think this band deserves a thread.
Pendulum is an electronic rock-band, drawing a lot of influences from Drum N Bass (early Pendulum mostly), but lately also a lot of different genres, i'd even say Progressive music. (The Tempest especially)
They have released 3 albums, but apart from them there's a lot of tracks from the early days, and there's a "Greatest Hits" containing a lot of these songs.
I know a few people here on the forum knows about them, mainly (i think) because Steven Wilson collaborated with them on their last album, resulting in the song: The Fountain.

Anyhow, album-ranking:
1. Hold Your Colour
2. Immersion
3. In Silico

Favorite songs would include: Still Grey, Plastic World, Girl in the Fire, Hold Your Colour, The Tempest, Visions, The Fountain, Encoder and The Island. (both parts) :)

Now appreciate.  :hefdaddy

Same as them, Immersion is the only album I've heard, but it is pretty cool.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

I have In Silico and this album is really good. I love Propane Nightmares and The Tempest is an amazing closer. There's probably no song that's less than good on this album.

I haven't got Immersion yet (and won't do so because I want to cut down on buying CDs when I need to save money), and I'm not sure if the fact that Steven Wilson collaborated on one track is worth it. I listened to the samples on Amazon and wasn't too impressed, to be honest.
... And you ask me: "Where's my hairspray?"

Mentlegen.

1. Hold your colour
2. Immersion
3. In Silco

All their songs are crap apart from the one Steven Wilson was in

My rankings still hasn't changed since last time, overall I think that early Pendulum has more gems then newer Pendulum.
Songs like Spiral, Still Grey and Minds Eye that are "B-sides" from the early days are just fantastic, sadly they can't be found on an album from what I know, but I have some "Greatest Hits" on my computer, which is 29 songs with pretty much all of (most of) Hold Your Colour, plus a lot of other great songs.

Immersion>>>Hold Your Colour>>>>>>>>>In Silico

Hold Your Colour has some great stuff, but some of it drives me crazy (tarantula vocals :| ).
In Silico was a joke apart from a few songs.
Immersion is consistently great \o/

Hold Your Colour has a few songs I'm not TOO excited about, like Tarantula and Slam, but the highs on Hold Your Colour are way higher then the highs on Immersion.

Immersion is pretty much the only electronic album I've listened to.  I think it's amazing.

Slam is like a dirty stain on Hold Your Colour, easily my least favourite Pendulum song.

Personally I think Tarantula is my least favorite on that album, but Slam would fall under the same category as Showdown, they are both good, but slightly repetitive and suffers from being a bit overplayed.
HYC >>>>> Immersion >>> In Silico.
With that said, I still think all three albums are great. :)

Yeah no.
I really like Immersion, but comparing it to Hold Your Colour is retarded, HYC is at least 2 dimensions better.

I kinda miss oldschool Pendulum tbh. :(
Immersion was a step up from In Silico, but the best songs are still from the early days.

Listened to the second half of In Silico today for the first time properly, it has some cool ideas and would have been quite passable as a prog album if it had been produced and arragned as more of a prog album (Pendulum as a whole sounds like utter crap it is probably the drum and bass sound). As it is it's crap though

I have Immersion, and it's really cool. The Fountain gets all the love 'round these parts, but I think The Island Parts 1 & 2, Watercolour, Witchcraft, Immunize, and Encoder are all really good, too.

I never said I didn't like drum and bass, rather that the songs on that album would have benefitted from a more rockish sound being as it was fairly [prog] rock-oriented...

Voyager probably has the most badass synthesizers I've ever heard in a song, evar.
At least for Pendulum.  ;)

All you Immersion-people really should check out the rest of their stuff.
In Silico has some really good songs, and Hold Your Colour remains my favorite album by them.  :hat
