That's awful, he was an incredible keyboard player.

They found seven empty bottles of whisky?  Good lord!

On a somewhat lighter note, it takes me year to finish a bottle of whisky.

It takes me a whole evening to drink one small glass.

I'm not really much of an alcohol drinker.  In fact, I really don't care for the taste of it and it seems to have less of an effect on me than the average person.  I had given up on it altogether until I tried whiskey.  They say it is good to have alcohol now and then, so that's my alcohol drink.  But seven bottles?  I don't think I could drink that much no matter how hard I tried.

If I do have an alcoholic beverage these  days it's usually wine.

I think I read that he was MIA for 5 days to a week, which is why the hotel people went to check on him. It's unlikely he drank that much in a sitting. Moreover, they didn't say what size bottles they were. Back when I was a competent drinker a qualified amigo and myself could put away a fifth of JD without too much trouble. A professional (and he does seem to be Swedish, after all) should be able to put away a fifth pretty easily. So, 7 fifths over the better part of a week really isn't all that extraordinary. Now, if they were 1.75s, then we're talking about genuinely heroic levels of consumption here.

Nevertheless, sounds like a pretty depressing last few days. Hardly the golden age of Hollywood where a Barrymore, Martin or Holden can stay shitfaced while chasing tail and whipping their gear out in public, all while being adored by millions. My hunch is that they determine it was long-term drinking that did him in, rather than a good old fashioned death by misadventure, and if that's the case, being a professional-level drinker and staying holed up in hotel room for weeks is a pretty damned depressing combination.
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

Nice - I will be interested to see your questions.  We'll see how hard hitting you can be without getting in to trouble :)

Ask him why he left himself such a small amount of stage on his last tour?

I love this guy.  One of my fav players but his musical decline is heartbreaking.  I'll try the new album though.

It's more interesting than his blues covers album, but that's not saying much, is it?

I didn't even give that a single listen.  I heard the sample song, some shit cover I can't even remember and almost vomited.

I've only seen him once back in 2008 or 2009 with Doogie and it was a great show.  not sure I'd see him now with no real singer and more instrumentals but that show had quite a few instrumentals but a lot of vocal songs like the old days and it was very entertaining.

HAHAHA.   350 concerts +/- and I don't think I've EVER seen a setup like that.  That fucker CAN play guitar though.  I was front row and I watched him do shit with his hands that I didn't think possible.

Phrasing.

Loved YJM’s stuff in the 80’s and 90’s but it’s been a long time since I bought anything new from him.  Last decent album I remember was Facing The Animal I think.

I bought Spellbound after seeing him a couple years ago, and it was stellar. Some of his later stuff is sort of hard to find, I feel.

There's a reason for that.  ;D

I haven't liked anything since as Tim mentioned Perpetual Flame, that one was very good.  The next was meh and it just went down from there.

Alchemy is still my fav Malmsteen album.  Underrated and nice and heavy, and Boals rips it up.
