Watching DVD's:
« on: November 16, 2010, 03:02:47 PM »
What do you watch first - extras or the concert?

Myself, I tend to watch the documentary stuff (if included, of course) first - and then the actual gig. I love backstuff stuff.
For the TA DVD, for example, I first watch the docu, then the Giant Hogweed, and then the concert. Still have to watch the interview.

Concert.  A lot of the times I don't even bother with extras.  I know I should as it usually gives you a good insight, but most of the time a buy and watch a DVD for the concert.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

I always watch the extras first unless it's a commentary.

I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Extra's most of the time but with Transatlantic I did the opposite.  I don't know why!

Always watch the show first. I wouldn't watch the special features of a film first.

It depends for me. Most of the time is the main feature first, but yeah I wouldn't watch the special features of a non music DVD first.

extras first...for some reason it makes the concert more meaningful to know what went on behind the scenes

I'm with Mike and Numbers on this.  I watch the show first, then the extras.

I'll watch the show a few times before even thinking of the extras.

That's exactly what I've done since I got it two days ago :lol

And yes I usually go for the extra stuff first, before I head to the actual concert. Like the latest Opeth DVD for instance.

Main feature first, then docs, then main feature again.  Documentary stuff too often has spoilers, but I agree that it also helps you appreciate the main feature, so I usually check it out again.

Usually the show first, for this reason. I hate spoilers. If I knew a docu didn't have spoilers though, I'd probably be tempted to watch it first.

How can a DVD have spoilers when you know the set?

I think people are talking about both movies and concert DVDs in this thread.

The extras are usually way more interesting than the actual concerts, partially the reason I don't buy live DVDs anymore.

Well, I've naturally chosen to watch the show first, and then the extras, without really giving it much thought.  But based on what people here are saying, I think I'll try watching the extras first next time!
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges
