Just got Asleep Next To Science the other day. Serious Album of the Year contender. I know there are others here that agree with me here.

Getting it now.

Also, I had no idea it had the drummer and guitarist from Fear Before along with Dan and Ashley. Now I'm even more interested to hear it.

I've also been meaning to check this out...the bassist from BTBAM + the hot chick from Cradle of Filth = I'm interested.

I've been listening to it on and off for a couple months now.  GREAT stuff... now I just need to actually find it and buy it.

slicksy never got back to you with a report. i'll just do my best to sub in; here goes:

i cant believe this album isn't making more 2010 top 10 lists on this board!

i pre ordered and received my copy right around the relase date. i had listened to it once streaming online then 3 or 4 times casually in the first (circa)10 days after i got it. around 5th listen, a switch went off, and i realized there was definitely some magic in this album (it was also around said 5th listen that i realized i could/would get over my initial apprehension over the vocals). and now, some 100 or so days later, i would guesstimate i've spun it somewhere near 200 times! and it turns out i'm still not sick of it, as it's spinning whilst i type.

there's a certain youthful 'cool'ness to the album (makes me wish i was half my age). the vocals lend themselves to this youthfulness (both in lyric and in tone/delivery). some of the lyrics may be deemed immature by some, but i rather like them. they have a deepness to them when theyre more intro/extrospective, and theyre just straight up fun when, um, less mature. as for the music, well i could go on and on. the songwriting, ofcourse, is top notch. but then you also have dan creating such great atmosphere with his 'lead' tones. and ashley always has the right sound dialed in for the part.

all's i know is i would love to see some manifestation of this live...and that dan + ashley = magic; i sure hope they collaborate on another...oh, and that "me and mr. science are about to square off, and engage, in an old-fashioned bout, of fisticuffs":metal

I love the music but the vocals are just not very good.

I like the vocals.  Yes, they're a bit strange, but they remind me of 90's alternative (via Smashing Pumpkins, I'm thinking).

Yeah, that's part of the problem for me hehe.
