Got about 4" of snow last night and this morning at my house. Which for this area is like a blizzard of apocalyptic proportions.

Left my apartment at 7:30am to get to work. Parking lot was 3 feet of snow. Tried to back out of garage, car got stuck in snow. Spent 20 minutes in -30 or whatever shoveling snow. Managed to get my car back in the garage. Called co worker to pick me up. Find out work is postponed til 10am. No one told me.

Get to work, same coworker's battery dead. Go to pick her up, and car gets stuck in snow again. Very very friendly guy helps push car out of snow.

Snow level has dropped to 1000ft here, seems I'll be waking up to having the hills around my town blanketed.

Typical news report for Seattle, where what people in Canada call snow flurries makes us look like we got hit by Captain Trips:

Earlier this week, Seattle was hit with a snowstorm that shut down the city. Some neighborhoods received about half a foot of snow... Officially, the Sea-tac airport received a storm total of about 2.7 inches of snow.

Reminds me of winters in Atlanta. It's be normal to cold and the usual Atl weather, then a weekend out of the year it'd drop like 3 inches, and the whole city'd fucking come to a halt.

Don't even want to know what would happen if the SF bay area got an actual snow storm, that'd be fucked.

I ran into a couple when I was in Nashville the other day and they were talking doom and gloom about the snow. Then we said we were from Minnesota and they stopped and said: "Oh, in the case I guess we don't have it that bad"

Well, I imagine Seattle isn’t exactly equipped to handle more than 1 or 2 inches of snow, so I can see why it’d be difficult. I’m surprised it doesn’t snow more there, with all the rain they get and all.

I live near a small town called Sequim about a two hr drive west of Seattle. We now have eighteen inches of snow and it's still dumping. Its also windy creating snowdrifts. This is at sea level, I think the penguins and polar bears might be heading our way. Haven't had this much snow since 1996.

I saw that area got hit hard. I am in Lynnwood and we didn't get as much as was expected. Though as you know, anything more than a thin layer can wreak havoc around here. My favorite are the pictures of grocery stores with empty shelves.

I’M SO HAPPY!!!!!!!

When I was a kid, Seattle used to get snow quite a bit more frequently in the winter. I recall getting fairly decent snowfall at least once every few years anyway. Now it seems like we only get really good snow about once every 10.

Oh sure, every other year we might get an inch in the morning which melts by noon...but I don’t even count that.

Ya...you're out in a totally different area.   Although we are getting it pretty decent here.  We've got about 6 inches or so in Maple Valley (for those of you not from here, I'm about a 30 min drive SE of Seattle.   A bit closer to the foothills of the Cascades.  I have friends a little higher up who have at least a foot.)

I have a friend that works at the local QFC, and said it was like a shark frenzy feeding on animal planet. The manager said it was the busiest day ever a day or two ago. People go berzerko! Rightfully so since we got 2 feet of snow, lol!
It is quite beautiful out and might as well enjoy lt, and my dog loves it too. Rockin the snowstorm!  :metal

Ok....45min.   And honestly, I can get there most of the time in about 45.   The Maple Valley Hwy is a B-line to the freeways.

EDIT - if it's rush hour, it's an hour.   If it's particularly bad, or there's an event downtown....it's more.   So ya, it can be that long.

Indeed, they can get expensive. I've worked at nurseries and the Japanese Maples (Acer Palmatum) had a pretty heavy price tag. I just had to include the botanical name here, that's the geek landscaper coming out in me..

We've got an okay-sized one on my property. When we bought the house, the realtor said something like "and in a few years, you could probably get $5K for that tree". I had never heard of one prior to that.

What makes them so expensive?  We have a few of them, and they're kinda cool-looking, kinda different, but I had no idea they were some kind of special thing.  Just a wacky mutant maple, as far as I can tell.

PNW has been getting snow for basically the past 10 days, and it keeps piling up as none of it can melt. It's only up to about a foot where I am but that is crazy for this area. I cannot remember an extended period of snowfall like this in the 42 years I've lived here. School has been closed last Mon/Tues, half days Wed/Thurs/Fri, and closed this Mon/Tues. Mrs. Cool Chris (the teacher) is going to go Jack Torrence on the rest of us pretty soon.

We're gettin hammered here in Central Ontario.  gonna see a total of about 25cms of precipitation - combination of snow, ice pellets (which is what it is now), snow, and freezing rain... then more snow (in that order).  The Toronto District School Board closed down today - first time since 2011.  It typically takes an act of biblical proportions to close them down, because it is virtually zero bussed students, so closing schools puts parents and thus the entire city into chaos.

took me and the kid just over 2 hours with shovels. as you can see the neighbors fence prohibits us from throwing it in that direction so we have to push it to an area that is more wide open. can't wait to clean up the stuff still coming down tomorrow.

Freezing rain here at the moment, and has been for about 3 hours, and will be until about 4am.  Then switching to snow.  Supposedly all day tomorrow.

Dis is fuq'd.
