This thread prompted me to dust off some Opeth last night - it's really been a while since I listened to them. Watershed was the album of choice yesterday.
Zydar is my new hero.  I just laughed so hard I nearly shat.

My "album" of choice to have a go at Opeth after a long time of not listening is the Royal Albert Hall concert (on CD). I love that performance and I enjoy how they go through their whole discography, playing BWP (my fav. Opeth record) in its entirety.
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

There's something about Mikael's growls on that live album that sound weird to me. I think Roundhouse Tapes and Lamentations are both amazing though, the latter despite the fact I don't rate Damnation THAT high in the Opeth discography, the contrast between the first and second set still works nice.

Roundhouse Tapes is an amazing live record as well. I must admit I've never seen or heard Lamentations..

Lamentations is the only live album with very good growls. And Lopez is a monster, he makes the songs even better with some drum fills. I haven't seen Axe doing that since he joined Opeth.

After that Mikael's growls went downhill. The Roundhouse Tapes is still ok though.

For the best growls it is Lamentations and bootlegs before 2003.

Very, very hard to decide on 7 only.

Went with:
Harlequin Forest
Bleak
River
When
Ghost of Perdition
Godhead's Lament (possibly my favorite)
Will 'O the Wisp

Steven Wilson's drone bullshit side project with endless repetition

Which one is this and can you recommend a specific album?

Bass Communion. Bass Communion III and Ghosts On Magnetic Tape are my favorite, but I think Ghosts is slightly better.

When
The Moor
Bleak
The Drapery Falls
Windowpane
Ghost of Perdition
Harlequin Forest

Re: Deliverance outro, I don't mind it, but Harlequin Forest pulls the same thing off more successfully IMO, with the lead guitar gradually becoming quieter.

Also I can understand why no songs from the first two albums were included (as MAYH was when they really got their break) but I would have made room for The Night and the Silent Water and In Mist She Was Standing on my list most likely. Love those.

Advent and The Twilight Is My Robe are also incredible. The acoustic section of Twilight is  :o
