#11 - Daron Malakian (Ex System of a Down, Scars on Broadway)

Daron is one of those musicians who receives opinions from two sides of the spectrum.

Love him <--------------> Hate him

I'm sure you are aware of which side I'm on. I know, I know, "But he ruined SoaD when he intruded on Serj and began doing a lot of the vocals". See, I disagree. Like I said about Hasse, I feel Daron's presence as well adds more dimension and contrast to the bands music. On Mezmerize and Hypnotize, the stories being told are of a much more personal nature, and Daron's chiming in really helped tell those stories, I would say. Overall, I just love Daron's musical style. Another thing that I love about the man is his stage presence. On a live bootleg I have, during Sugar you can hear Daron yelling to the crowd "How many people can we get on this stage? I wanna see how many peopel we can get on this stage for Suuuggggggaaaaa" and then about 20 seconds or so into the song he commands "DON'T LET THE AUTHORITIES STOP YOU" and I lol a bit every time.  The man is also an interesting musician, and wrote some very interesting music. It's a shame Scars on Broadway was so terrible.

Favourite songs - Stealing Society, Needles, Radio/Video

(You guys, I forgot to clarify something. In each update, my "Favourite songs" section is referring to my favourite songs where this musician is most prominent, so to speak.)

wat.
Radio/Video? :>

Anyhow, i really like Daron as well.. and i'm probably the only one here on the forum to prefer the Scars on Broadway album over the SOAD-albums.
Though they're all great.

Tv/radio is a Mudvayne song. I also like Scars On Broadway, the very same I like SOAD and Serj Tankians albums

Fucking love Daron. Agreed completely about how he brings SOAD to a new level (big surprise).

Though, how can you mention Daron but not Lonely Day? :neverusethis:
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

I'm still a tad too cynical to believe they'll reunite. I mean, don't get me wrong I'd love to see it happen. They are the only band in my top 5 favourite bands I haven't seen live yet. It just seems...unrealistic.

For my own selfish reasons, what are your other four top favorite bands?

Guesses:

Iron Maiden
Nevermore
Exodus
Slayer

As much as I do love Exodus and Slayer, they are definitely not top 5 material. Top 5 means it doesn't matter what mood I'm in, I'm fucking listening to them.

Then in that case, mine would be:

Iron Maiden
Dream Theater
Tool
Alice In Chains
Metallica

Seen them all except for Tool, which will definitely change on their next U.S. tour. (inb4 lat saying he's seen them)

Tool is like...6 or 7 for me. Actually, probably 6. Right before Unexpect and right after Coheed.

Guess who saw Tool this summer? :neverusethis:

#10 - M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)

I'm probably going to get a metric ton of shit for this update, but I've always felt the man deserves more credit than he gets. Let's forget for a moment that he is apart Avenged Sevenfold, forget the emo clothing/style, his harsh vocals and the ever so shitty album titled "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet". What's left? A young man who is an incredibly talented singer with a unique voice, who was apart of the school choir in high school. And that's just it, he is a good singer and is talented in what he does. He sounds nothing like those dime-a-dozen metalcore singes with whiny, 14 year old voices. He can sing, and very impressively too.

Favourite songs - Sidewinder, Trashed and Scattered, Burn it Down

I better not be disappointed. Remember, I'm 1/8th Cherokee. I can pray to ancient spirits and get you cursed and shit.

Son, Trey has no place on a list like this. He's easily one of the most celebrated death metal guitarists ever.
