Late on this one but yeah, Flake adds a total other dimension to Rammstein. He has some fucking great synths and his dance during Weisses Fleisch is great.

Not much discussion on Craig Finn I noticed, but that's what I expected. I still think I'm the only Hold Steady fan on the board :lol

It has just occurred to me that you have M Shadows here who played for at least 15,000 almost every stop on their current tour. Now, while that is most certainly not a bad thin, you and I both saw Devy with less than 300 people at each show (first one had about 250, second one had 175...if that). If that does not scream "underrated" and "obscure" I don't know what does.

Just my opinion.

That about sums it up. Not to mention, this thread is about musicians I find underrated DUE TO PERSONAL EXPERIENCES SUCH AS DISCUSSIONS WITH FANS AND THE LIKE. M. Shadows is far more underrated and under-appreciated than Devy, when looking at a love him:hate him ratio.

Update time!!!!

#6 - Annlouice Loegdlund

Now here's a singer who really could use more recognition overall. Annlouice is the primary vocalist for avant garde-swing-operatic-extravaganza metal band Diablo Swing Orchestra, and boy does she have pipes. I've always had an affinity for very operatic vocal styles (probably because my grandmother made me listen to opera-esque music throughout early childhood), and Annlouice does it in just a way that I go crazy for. Her voice has so much range, so much power and so much emotion. And to hear that mixed with the heavy riffs DSO supplies, it's a plain old god-tier combo. The other thing I find that ups my respect for Ms. Loegdlund is that her voice is everything but studio manufactured. What you hear is what you get, essentially. From all of the live videos I've seen, she sings just as well as she does in the studio, and the range is all there.

Favourite songs - Heroines, New World Widows, A Rancid Romance

Yes, no and yes. Or I'm lying. Or I'm lying about lying. You really have no idea. But what you do know, is I have 5 more spots to fill. Oh, speaking of which:

#5 - Matt Smith (Theocracy)

No, not that chick who played in Poison :neverusethis:

Matt Smith is yet another vocalist who deserves about 10000x more recognition than he ever gets. The man is the founding member, singer and guitar player for christian (I know, I know) progressive/power metal band Theocracy. He's easily a personal favourite vocalist of mine. The man's range is absolutely stunning. He has a very power metal sounding singing voice, of course. You know, singing high notes and shit. And mother fuck can he sing those high notes well. In the words of the infamous Japanese man in regards to Dream Theater, "So engie, so powah". Matt Smith's voice is above excellent and is what a truly talented singer sounds like. He's also a very talented guitar player. Maybe not John Petrucci good, but he's still one hell of a musician and writes fantastic music, even if his stuff is heavily christian based.

Favourite songs - Rudolph vs. Frosty (seriously, greatest song ever.), Mirror of Souls, Martyr

That's how I felt when I first heard of them. But damn is their music good (if you are into progressive/power metal stuff). You really just have to pretend the lyrics aren't there, and that Matt Smith is just yodeling nonsense with his angelic, beautiful power metal voice.

I will give them a try because I trust Lat but I must admit that the christian prog/power tag was a bit of a turn-off for me...

BTW, I just had a funny image in my head: Lat banging his head to Theocracy while wearing his Bloodbath (Mock the Cross) shirt! :lol

Dude, I think that may have unintentionally happened before :lol. I fucking love that shirt. So god damn mehtul.

And yeah, the christian aspect is not something everyone is willing to get past, and I completely understand that. Hell, I rarely tell ANYONE I know about Theocracy, to avoid explaining and justifying my reasons for liking them. If nothing else, just listen to Rudolph vs. Frosty. It's silly and a little childish, but fun as hell.

The reason why Thrice's front man doesn't bother me is that they aren't a metal band. With Theocracy and As I Lay Dying being metal, it's almost like an oxymoron: Christian and Metal.

Also, it's not really too obvious in most of Thrice's lyrics that Dustin is Christian. Just on Beggars.

Calling a genre christian metal or christian rock is stupid. Genre names that don't talk about the SOUND of the genre are stupid. Like viking metal, stupid term (some play black metal, some folk). (folk metal  :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal)

I guess it's the lyrics that make it that way, but who cares if it's christian lyrics. If it sounds good it sounds goo.
