Come one, come all. Within this here thread I am going to posting some of my all time favourite musicians that fit under the category of (what I consider) fairly underrated. There are so many musicians out there who don't quite get the recognition they deserve. I'll be doing 13, as the title says and I'll be updating one musician a day (assuming I get around to it every day, hopefully). Before Sonatafanica get's on my case about me using the term obscure and then naming of musicians that aren't indie, just keep in mind I'm going of both my own personal experience based off of DTF conversations and from those in real life. Some of the artists I have on my list are actually very well known and very well respected, but still don't quite get the recognition they deserve. And not to mention have always seemed to me as very modest musicians. So no, Maynard James Keenan WILL NOT be on this list.
Anyway, let's get the ball a-rolling with #13:
#13 -
Michael Amott (Ex Carcass, Arch Enemy)
Yes, the man is a widely respected guitar player and melodic death metal musician. But I've really only noticed that well...amongst those who are big fans of melodic death. Which by the way is a personal favourite sub-genre of mine. The thing I love about Michael Amott is that the man just knows how to take the heaviest of music but still keep it melodic and filled with feeling. This is much more noticeable particularly on Carcass's album Heartwork, which is the bands most melodic sounding, seeing how it's the second album Amott played on with Carcass, after they went from a more straight-forward death metal and...grind-core band. I digress, Amott's style has always felt very definitive to me and has always stuck out as one of the coolest styles for the melodic death sub-genre. I also feel the man might be a little lesser known outside of the Carcass fans because most people, when thinking Arch Enemy, think "I would love to hear Angela Gassow growl during sex". But damn, can Amott fucking play.
Favourite songs - Lavaging Expectorate of Lysergide Composition, Bury Me an Angel, Heartwork.
To be continued.
