Gavin would definitely be my first choice though. He's a phenomenal drummer and as SW says, "he's the musician of the band." He would be the perfect fit for DT imo.

Rumbo, why are you bringing up Harrison? Didn't you already start a thread claiming to "know" people saying it was Mangini?
Why perpetuate other names?

Are you saying that the drummer is NOT in the studio? Has this been confirmed because I would be very surprised if that were true. To me, it makes no sense.

I think he's just having fun in this thread. The thread title implies speculation. It's all in fun.  ;)

 :chill

I'm just stirring the pot a little. Because there's nothing else happening in DT world really. The Mangini thread was about somebody else's strong belief about Mangini, not necessarily my own.

My personal sense is, given DT's popularity, I have a very hard time imagining you have a drummer entering and leaving the studio daily and nobody knowing about it.

OK Ok I'm chilled! It's just that there's enough spam from the noobs.

How popular are they? This is damned DTF and we can't even perform an organized stakeout, and we're their biggest fans!

would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

I still think it is Mike Mangini, but I just noticed (I have probably seen it a thousand times) the front page for MP website which states; MP is a founding member and Drummer of Dream Theater as well as side projects etc....but it doesn't list anywhere his new project with Symphony X singer Russel Allen and Mike Orlando.
Why not list he has left Dream Theater.....God I really just want an announcement already.

I certainly wouldn't be surprised. In retrospect, we based some of our assumptions on evidence that didn't necessarily rule the drummer out. I wouldn't be surprised if it's some drummer that we already decided didn't get the job because some guy knew some guy that didn't think he was the new drummer. Sure some guys we know aren't because of schedule conflicts or they actually said they weren't (Zeleny, Wildoer to an extent), but it could easily be some guy we overlooked in the first few weeks of these shenanigans.

Zeleny and Wildoer were my two initial choices, but when they were ruled out I started considering Mangini, Minneman and Lang. But then again, I'll be happy with whoever they pick.  ;D

i don't think i would be surprised. i think he's definitely the frontrunner, but it's certainly not set in stone. evidence, gossip etc. point to him more than any other drummer, but it certainly hasn't been set in stone.

you only have to look up DT drum covers on youtube to see that there are quite a fiew drummers that can play well enough but i think its the creativity we/they really need as well as a good stage presence!! i still really hope its minneman he looks the most fun  ::)
The creation and destruction of harmonic and 'statistical' tensions is essential to the maintenance of compositional drama. Any composition (or improvisation) which remains consonant and 'regular' throughout is, for me, equivalent to watching a movie with only 'good guys' in it, or eating cottage cheese.

Could be someone that's not even on the list.

Problem is, if it's someone unknown, it most likely means he's rather young too. I can't see DT bringing in a young kid.

Just age difference and the things that come with it. I have auditioned with various bands over the years, and every time there was a significant age difference (to either side), it didn't flow well.

They're looking for someone with experience. But either way, large age difference is always kind of weird.

first sentence = weak point

second sentence = good point.

edit but still neither points towards somebody other than mangini being the drummer.

While that's very possible, and obviously fine, it would make the constant statements of "you guys will understand.....you guys will NOT be disappointed" etc to make much less sense.

Anyone who even mentions Gavin is having a lot of fun in their fantasy world, that's for sure. There is no way he would leave PT for DT, I don't even see it as a remote possibility.

Older= assured experience
I would think DT would want to make the more solid choice in this decision rather than the risky one (picking a younger guy).
