You know what this reminds me of? When you're standing in a GA concert, everybody is jacked up to see the band, but then it takes ages for the band to come on. All the while, for inane reasons such as a curtain fluttering, everybody goes frantic, only to die down once everybody realizes it was nothing.

That's kinda the situation right now. :lol

rumborak

That's such a good analogy. :lol It's like, just seeing Mangini's name mentioned somewhere, even out of context, results in "well, it looks like he's the guy!".

I also posted this in the other Mangini thread.  I noticed that Mangini updated his mikemangini.com website yesterday, but I didn't see it mentioned here.  It sounds like he's at home and not in the studio with DT.  Here's what he said:

"I am attempting to finally settle the new recording gear so it works. A totally upgraded drum kit is up and running as well. The EPro and come custom pads really open a world of sounds with both the hands and feet. This is crazy fun!!"

So it's not Mangini.  ;)

Seriously, that just sounds like something JR would post about his equipment. Nothing really revealing here imo.

True.  He did say "recording" gear.  I guess I didn't expect him to try out new/upgraded equipment on the DT album.  But it's possible!  Hmm.

Because he had no posts and was claiming something pretty significant without offering any kind of proof of where Mangini was, or that he was even from New York at all.  If Mike posts something that leads people to believe its him, it makes a bit more sense.  :lol

Still hoping that he's just doing some recording for something completely random and not DT.

I never changed my vote, although my vote know heavily lingers on Mangini. Not because of the speculation or things said here, but because I think he seems to me like the best candidate as it has already beens aid multiple times in this thread (location, style, age, etc.)

Mangini does seem to fit the criteria. Plus, he seems like someone the others would like being around. Charisma is contagious. I can't find it now unfortunately, but does anyone have a link of an interview he did in Italy where he was playing the role of an Italian with the accent and all? I guess because of his Italian heritage he figured he'd play it up in the interview. That was just hilarious.

Edit: Found the link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QnQjTiBWSw

Well, he's having a camp in California in march, wich lasts 2 days. He's probably staying in Austria/Germany for a week+ for two camps in April.  That's about it as far as I know, I saw some other posters but I think those were from last year. So it shouldn't interfere that much with the recording sessions. Let's say he will be unavailable for DT work for two weeks, and thats it!

I haven't ruled anybody out at this point. Except Mike Portnoy... although Zombie MP is a different story. OK, so I've eliminated Zeleny because he flat out said he didn't try out. Other than that though the only other person "confirmed" to not be it is Minnemann, but that was an unsourced Blabbermouth article, which basically means he's still a possibility.

HEY WAIT A MINUTE MAN.........

if Mangini's the chosen one, then we'll have at least one DT's song recorded with EPro, the electric drums.
I have got more than enough from Speak To Me.

Does that matter? Say hypothetically they hired Zeleny, and told him to zip his trap. Well, if someone asks you aboot it, what are you gonna say? Throw the dogs off the scent. I haven't ruled out ANYONE, although I've thought it was Mangini from the start.
