Goddamnit, I've been tracking this for 103 pages and after all this time we still don't have a bloody name.

For all the stuff they keep saying about contract problems and shit, I mean jesus. This has been going since October/November, I have a feeling we're going to be pretty shocked when we find out who it is.

If it's any of the names that have been mentioned in multiple forums it won't be a surprise at all. More of a 'meh'
moment and then we all transition to talk of the music itself and what we expect on the new album.

The ONLY way I'll be blown away is if it's a totally unexpected person. 100% out of the blue. Even if that is the
case we'll talk about it for a couple weeks and then we will be talking about musical expectations.

So either way, it will be about what is most important. The music.

Unless it is Mike Portnoy (or Kevin Moore) I have serious doubts as to the level of "shocked" we will be...  as Rumborak said a few posts after yours I too am kind of more interested in specifically WHY as opposed to who at this point as well.  I mean I really want to know but when they announce Mangini (or maybe Minneman or Lang) I will most likely be "meh... Why did it take so damn long guys???!?!"

No it's not. A lot of you guys are just impatient because you are now so used to getting all your info so fast (thank you, Internet, thank you).

Personally, I LIKE that we are still waiting, makes it fun.

The thing is he is not speculating, he is in fact claiming he knows the truth but is not providing real evidence. There have been guys here that have done that before and got banned for it.

This is completely false.

So, if John Petrucci came onto the forum and didn't use his real name, but posted something about the band he would no credibility right?

Depends.  If he posted sufficient information so that we could either determine that he was really JP or that what he was saying was accurate, he would absolutely be credible.  If he posted anonymously, and posted in vague "I have information, but can't say exactly what it is or how I got it" terms, then no, we wouldn' believe him.

There's too many n00bs that would see this as their chance to be in the forum spotlight to believe it right off the bat.

You have to think that DT are pissed that they kinda got blue balled by this whole "legal" scenario.

I mean they had a chance to make a major press release and "unveil" the new guy to the music world.  Now it will be more "Hey, remember those guys rumored to be the guy?  By the way, X really is the guy."

Unless DT was waiting for the new guy because he was fighting in Afghanistan or liberating people from a fascist regime, this will be a MEH event.

Something like dissolving a guys management contract or recording contract would sound silly.  I know its a reality in the music business, but its still dumb.

We are not impatient. If DT for some reason had still not picked a new drummer, that would be one thing. But the fact that they have had one for a few months now pisses us off. Not to mention we don't even get an explanation as to why.

This has been explained by James LaBrie (maybe other members as well) in numerous interviews. You are never going to get 100% of the particulars. When the new drummer is announced, I am sure we will get a little more info.

Same here. It all comes down to the change of times. Most of us wouldn't even had known they got a new drummer until the new album was released. Now, the internet has people craving info in the snap of a finger. Isn't that fanboysim?

Yeah, I think that's the point Chino was trying to make too. If at the beginning they had said, "We'll let you know when we're ready, but we don't know how long that'll be." then alright, whatever, no problem. But when you say, "Soon." people generally don't think 'minimum six months.'

To be fair, they likely had no idea it would take so long, that being said though they could probably say more than they are (although, again, we can't know that without knowing the real reason for the delay).

I get the feeling, at least from that one JLB radio interview, that the members want to announce it but the label is holding them back.

They're apparently as crazy as we are, they just can't wait to announce the name. I can imagine how hard it is for them to keep the secret, and as Jordan said, the whole thing has more levels than we think.
