Mangini is such a good drummer so that alone makes it worth the wait. But i do agree that he isn't the most ''exciting'' choice.

Edit: Fixed some of my quick typing.

I wish Portnoy was back...

If he was then he would have even more power than before and that would be a bad thing. Legendary drummer that he is, I wouldn't want that and I imagine neither would DT.

Not that I'm happy MP left, but in all honesty not knowing the drummer and getting very few updates from the studio is actually making the anticipation more exciting.

I liked JR's update of the keyboard patch he was using. Made me excited to see the patch titled 'Mellow Fuckin' Organ' Actually I was happy to see an organ in DT, even if it is a patch.

Anyway, I'm with blackngold, it does make it more exciting, the lack of updates

If it is Mangini, I look forward to hearing what kind of creative drum parts he can come up with because most of his recordings that I've heard have been as a session guy (Extreme, Annihilator) or backing a solo artist (James Labrie/Mullmuzzler, Steve Vai), neither of which are situations that typically encourage outside-the-box/spotlight drumming.

They'd think that if you have the ability to travel through time, they'd want you to go to late 2011 and get a copy of the new album and bring it back so we can hear it and find out who the new drummer is.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I think the whole reason I don't want Mangini is... he's not as talented as Lang or Minnemann. Ever since I joined and made my first thread here (which was Is MP Improving?) I've noticed how stagnant, repetitive, non-challenging the drumming has become in DT's world. Lang or Minnemann could bring something to the table; I'm not impressed with Mangini's drumming.

I originally picked Mangini, then switched to Lang after seeing some of his playing.

If it's Mangini, I'll be excited, and will eagerly await the album.
If it's Lang, I'll be very excited, and will eagerly await the album.
If it's Minnemann, I'll be excited, and will eagerly await the album.
If it's someone else, I'll assume the guys know what they're doing, look up some videos of the new drummer's playing, and eagerly await the album.

I'm with you, and also i've been hearing Thomas Lang's stOrk and it just blows out of the water anything i've ever heard Mangini play, yes even "fire garden suite" wich i think it's not that good...

SE, please don't be so harsh, there is no place for that here.

Yeah, I'm sorry, hef and bosk and all the other mods.  I know that I shouldn't have behaved like that.  I apologize for that.  Just a thought, though:  anyone notice that he didn't answer my questions of, "where?/ when?/ pictures?"

I wouldn't be disappointed if Mangini was the drummer. But the interviews would be funny!

Nah, but seriously, he seems very charismatic.

P.S: I checked out the Fire Garden Suite, and I actually thought it was really nice. First Mangini video I watched and actually felt the style resembled Dream Theater.
