Possibility. Minnemann was selected, but he had prior commitments. They obviously couldn't outright ask him to jump ship for them, but they could make him want to. Having him play for Mind Meld might have been Jordans way of kind of courting him. Like Portnoy and Petrucci did with LTE to try to get Rudess.

A touch farfetched, but it's a thought.

That sounds fairly plausible to me.

Why?  There's no reason it should it have leaked.

We're living in an age where a decent amount of media and information leaks before its official release. Because of that, the expectation has been set that everything will leak.

Speaking of leaks, at this rate, the album itself will probably leak online before the name of the drummer is announced.

Jordan mentioning that Marco auditioned seems he didn't get the gig. Sounds right, because JR wouldn,t mention that he did or he'd probably get in trouble.

I don't see that really. It all relies on the assumption that JR can't keep a straight face when asked that question. All he said is that Marco auditioned, and that is true no matter whether he got chosen or not.

Haha, have you seen the internet? Thing's nuts. There'll be a fairly long list of people within (and outside of!) the industry who know by now, and the way information travels it only takes a teeny slip-up to blow a secret.

Plus there'll be people who live near the studio who may have seen him enter or exit, legal documentation knocking about, potentially CVs, studio records... it's a tricky thing to keep secret.

Perhaps JR mentioned that Marco auditioned as his sneaky way of letting us know who the drummer is. Perhaps the band is getting tired of the label holding things up. I doubt it, but who knows...

That's a thought. Though I imagine if the label is outright saying no, there could be a gag order (I think that's what it's called) in place. IN which case, pulling something like that would get him in serious shit. Which I doubt he'd do.

Possible. There isn't probably a day where JR or the other DT guys get asked for the new drummer. It was fine for the first 2 or 3 months, but now it's way too much  :lol

So far the explanation here has been "legalities", but the more time passes, the less likely I find that explanation. What I think is happening is that they don't want to announce anything until the guy actually shows up in the studio.
I think it would also be only understandable if DT want to first work on their own. There's been such a major shakeup in the band, adding a new element while the other elements are trying to figure out their new position in the band would probably only cause chaos.
Regarding writing music without a drummer, I'm pretty sure JR and JP wrote their solo stuff without one.

This is definitely plausible, even likely, and I think in terms of writing whoever the drummer is will have a somewhat limited role in this album while he settles in.

But I don't really see why it would hold up any announcement. We were told that it is being held up by the label, and we've heard nothing more since then, so that's what I assume is still happening.

Well, what I'm saying is that maybe the label is just prudent. Don't count your chicken until they're hatched, and don't announce the drummer until he's actually in the studio. First of all there could be something getting in the way in-between and then DT would look stupid, and secondly if you announce the drummer, people will want to see footage. If they're still in the "solo-writing" phase it would be weird to have them say "yeah, he's our new drummer, but he's sitting at home right now".

Isn't Roadrunner going through some legalities of their own? Weren't the recently purchased by Warner ?  I would imagine this is playing a role in the whole "Record Label" asking us to hold off.

Isn't it possible Warner is looking at all the artist's and their current contracts w/Roadrunner and deciding whom too keep and whom to buy out

All this could be playing a part in DT not being able to announce whom their drummer is

He only mentioned him because he was asked about the bandcrashers thing, he didn't just bring him up randomly.

I got the feeling from the interview that it wasn't him.

I just saw in the Local 802 Musician's Union newspaper under new members: Charlie Zeleny --- do you think the new member of DT would have to join the union? Any of you know if the other guys are members of the union? just the first thing that came to mind when I saw it in the paper..

That is correct. He put those vids online, but said he wasn't asked for the final audition. Whether he was ever actually in the running or not is unknown.
