Over/under on Blabbermouth citing "credible sources" for their "Weckl confirmed as new DT drummer" story?

I'd say 2 days.

Uh, no thanks.

Dream Theater will never branch out that far, and for good reason.

That said I changed my vote to Weckl.

If its Thomas Lang, I'm never buying another DT record again.  Good for me eh.  Fuck that guy.
WTF, did he rape your mother or something?
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

If nothing else, all this talk about Weckl caused me to revisit my GRP All-Star Big Band albums from the mid-90's. Great stuff.

Dave Weckl would probably not happen, mostly because I'm pretty sure the members of DT have zero aspiration to make that kind of music (jazz, fusion, samba, bosa-nova, etc.) and because what Weckl plays in 10 minutes is harder than the entire DT discography combined.

Wikipedia says:

Quote
Thomas Lang (born August 5, 1967 in Vienna), is an Austrian drummer who is currently working with the Los Angeles based progressive instrumental trio StOrk. Also officially announced on January 17th, 2011 as the replacement for Mike Portnoy in Dream Theater.

Screw wiki, but for once I hope the rumor is true - because I can't wait for the announcement anymore.  ;D

I can only assume this is because Mangini bowed out of DT, allowing Weckl to take the position -- I'd be grateful too.

Thomas Lang is no doubt very talented, but every video I've seen of him, he completely over uses the double bass.   I really hope they don't go in that direction.

How did you get that from what I said?

EDIT: BTW, DT is a lot of metal, they always have been. But that has nothing to do with my statement.

The part about barely keeping up. Plus, show me a good video of Weckl playing metal and/or heavy music.

It's pretty obvious that if you reached Weckls level of skill, then metal is super easy.

Funny I was thinking that a big problem with MP's drumming on BCSL was his over use of blast beats.

Anyway, I'm still hoping for Lang.

That's because most of the videos of him on youtube are from an instructional dvd about using your feet.
If anyone in this thread judge him; heyy James WTF? about you in Awake In Japan? Then I will say; WTF about you silly?

I thought the only use of blast beats was in that one limited section at the end of ANTR?

It was. No clue how that's overusing it since it's the only use in DT ever.

And he was never able to play it live anyway. I remember my drummer's disappointed face when he heard the snare-hihat thing MP played instead.
