DT doing anything more Fusion-like would be amazing.
Now that Obama has closed Gitmo, when will he turn his attention to the abuses and torturing of the onions that are used to make the angry whopper?

Which is why it's good if they pick Dave Weckl.

Yeah.  Would he be able to do the heavier stuff, though?

Yeah.  Would he be able to do the heavier stuff, though?

I don't see why not, he seems very capable. Plus it's usually easier for virtuoso fusion players to do metal than it is for metal players to do fusion.

Oh, shit. You won the thread.
Adami -- "simplifying 61 pages of aimless speculation into three sentences" since 02:31:05 PM
Contest_sanity -- "figuring out that you win a thread when you are the 2112th post" since he finished reading this sentence. :p
:lol Totally didn't get that.  I typically don't even look at # of replies.  I'm sorry.

But Weckl is a pretty big name, isn't he? It would be like Terry Bozzio joining. Don't get me wrong, Weckl making DT metal-fusion would be crazy awesome, but I don't think it would be him.

He's a pretty big name but so are most of the other guys listed. Plus I doubt DT would say no to someone SIMPLY because he has a big name.

Here, another amazing Weckl video, everyone check it out.

Imagine if DT incorporated this stuff into their live act.

Well obviously they wouldn't just do that, but imagine blending that style of drumming into JR and JPs natural tendencies to do something a little more funky.

Groove would be nice but there's no real place in my heart for funk. I'd rather them just do something bizarre and out there if they're going to really break out of their confines.

I put my vote in the "other" camp. Hoping that DT will surprise us with no one on the list above, and make Aaron Harris formerly of ISIS their new drummer.

LOL no I was not kidding. I think Harris would be a great fit with DT. Can play 8+ minute songs with ease, and drums with a huge Daney Carey influence. (They are really good friends) Listening to "Garden of Light" and "Threshold of Transformation" shows what he is seriously capable of, and over every album ISIS has released they have progressed as a band together.

But of course it is only one persons opinion...my own LOL. But all the drummers mentioned obove have not really intrigued me. Still looking forward to who will be announced though.

wait.... are there actually people who are hoping for Weckle to be the new DT drummer? Even the idea of him auditioning is barely valid. He is passionate about jazz/fusion, and I can't imagine Petrucci/anyone from DT/Management giving Weckl a spot to audition over someone who is more suitable: a progressive/metal drummer. Would Weckl really "sell-out" to play in a prog metal act rather than something more to his liking?

Done.

And, to echo what SE was saying about information in the old days, I didn't realize that KM had left the band until the ACOS EP came out, and I saw from the liner notes that they had a new keyboardist.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Someone should go to wiki and add him to the band already.

Watching some of the vids Adami posted, and Weckl is a REALLY good drummer.  Too bad we haven't heard anything suggesting that he even auditioned, so I'd say he's a very long shot like Aquiles Priester.  Still holding fast hope that Minnemann or Lang got the job.
