I'll only add "No" if the whole sentence can be "No, neither Six Degrees nor Octavarium are concept albums."

I'd approve of this.

 :lol

But.... I heard a rumour that they ARE concept albums before anyone else even mentioned it, therefore it must be true!

I don't understand Blabbermouth. They don't seem to report real news half the time, they just write stuff and people get all excited. Their 'rumor' article today cites absolutely no sources whatsoever. They quote a Petrucci post from a month ago and call it news.

And if it is true, then why would Roadrunner let a site that they own steal their own thunder?

I have posted this prior in the thread. Blabbermouth is completely independent of Road Runner Records.

Regardless of having resigned I have to believe MP is still the drummer until all the legal obligations are taken care of.  If it's a messy divorce then the longer it will take to announce the new member. I have never looked into the business structure of the band so I don't know what Mike is entitled to upon leaving.

Looks like the DT Wikipedia page and Marco's have been changed as well to include his name as a band member...some people have too much free time on their hands.

Rumor or not, it will be interesting to see if DT respond to these articles by a) Denouncing the articles as pure speculation b) Confirming that its not Marco c) Confirming that it is Marco d) Staying Silent e) announcing who it is

I think someone in the grape vine at RoadRunner has let it slip who the new drummer is to Blabbermouth and being the official label but still wanting to grab headlines, there would be no reason why they wouldnt leak it to a subsidiary to get advertising revenue but by not breaching any non-disclosure or gag impositions. That way they release all liability of announcing it officially and still at the end of the day get the bottom line revenue that blabbermouth will make in traffic.

Just a thought....

Just so I understand what's going on here.

Minneman played a show with Rudess, consistent with how good musicians like to play shows with each other when their main projects aren't busy.

Mike Mangini's whole life has changed for a reason he hasn't disclosed, and when asked about being in Dream Theater he doesn't say yes or no and clams up.

And the buzz is that Minneman is the new drummer?

I understand this inasmuch as a lot of people want Minneman and it colors their thinking, but it's still confusing on some level.

The only good counter I can think of is that Roadrunner is letting these stories run to build up hype in lieu of an official announcement.

Until very recently, the buzz was surrounding Mangini and pretty much only Mangini. I'm not sure what happened to change that.

The Blabbermouth article seemed very PR oriented. I wouldn't be surprised if RR "put in a good word" to the folks at Blabber. RR (and other band associates) surely know by now, it just can't be publicly confirmed yet. Personally, I think it's a contract issue holding up an official announcement. MP's contract may officially terminate first of the year (Hence the title tweak on his site.), and Minnemann's will pick up officially first of the year... allowing the announcement to be made.

idk, it kinda makes more sense if you look at it objectively

blabbermouth vs. Mangini canceling all his classes at Berklee for next semester.

I honestly don't know much about the evidence pointing to either side, but it seems that a blabbermouth article started this whole thing into motion. It's so crazy how quickly something that is purely speculative and a rumor can be blown out of proportion when honestly, NONE of us have any idea who the drummer really is. In reality, it could be someone we've never heard of.

Interestingly, Mike Mangini's website has changed to "This entire site will be changed in 2011" and his facebook is completely disabled which were both working a week ago.

So he quit as a drum teacher at Berklee around the same time as DT said they chose a new drummer.

His website is being completely overhauled after years of negligible updates?

His facebook is down? He has stopped doing lessons as far as we know?  He is apparently dodging questions about DT?

Looks like we have a winner...

I don't know why I didn't look into Minnemann until tonight. I would certainly like to see that kind of funk in Dream Theater, despite it being rather uncharacteristic of their previous work.

As per Blabbermouth:

"Acclaimed drummer Marco Minnemann (KREATOR, NECROPHAGIST, EPHEL DUATH, JOE SATRIANI) has laid down the drum tracks for the third album from the Italian alternative/progressive metal band POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER. Entitled "A Sense Of Decay", the CD is tentatively scheduled ror release in May 2011 via My Kingdom Music.

According to a press release, "A Sense Of Decay" will contain 13 songs with a running time of around 60 minutes. The CD will be mixed by Jim Caruana, who has previously worked with JEFF BUCKLEY, BLACK EYED PEAS and BEYONCE, among others. A 15-date European tour with Marco Minnemann on drums will follow the album release."

I am getting kind of disappointed cause I want him to be the new guy in DT, but it doesn't seem very likely now does it?  :'(

If that is true, then...

...Lang has the hurt foot.
...Minneman is committed to other projects.
...Mangini has an open schedule.

Even with those two not being totally confirmed (Blabbermouth and word of mouth, respectively), I am pretty convinced that it is Mangini.

If it is Mangini then he mus have played a blinder at the audition, and nothing like any of the Youtube videos I've watched of him.
Either that or he's the nicest guy you'd ever meet.
Maybe he has a van and a PA and offered to be the designated driver?

If Minnemann is the chosen one, I guess the band would be aware of his commitments and adjust their schedule. It's not like members of this band haven't toured with other bands.

By May, the DT studio time will probably be over and the only date that has been announced is the High Voltage in the end of July. So, Minnemann (if chosen) will be able to tour with the other band on May/June.
