I have a friend who works at Ludwig Drums as one of the artist representatives.  Tried to ask him last night if he had any insider's info on the DT situation but I got nothing out of him...

My friend regularly works with famous drummers who use Ludwig.  His Facebook has pictures of him with Ringo Starr and Rush, among many others.  He works at trade shows and is an insider in the world of drumming.  Therefore, I asked him.

Yeah, I agree with the above post.  Seriously, people, shut the hell up.  I actually think it's cool that people are willing to ask people they know for information.  So, shut up and stop making them seem like idiots just so you can feel good about yourself even though you probably live in your mom's basement and don't know anyone cool.  Here's a little news for you: just becase YOU don't know anyone in the industry doesn't mean OTHER people don't.

I'm not going to lie... i definitely Lol'd @ the above banter.
God lord its taking them ages to announce it, but the scope of things to consider when inducting a new drummer to DT is vast, particularly in relation to PR & Legal issues whilst maintaining discretion (stopping us from knowing!).
In terms of Minnemann: he writes most of his own solo stuff and records guitar, bass and key tracks too! for instance, this song was all written and recorded all by himself (this is a live version, and the only thing he didn't record for the song on the album is the bass solo):

so in short: not only is he a freak of a drummer, he is also very musical and creative beyond just drumming.
