Agreed. The only way I'd be happy with Portnoy in DT right now is if he said "guys... you go write the album. I'll stay out and just come and play the drum parts. It's your album, just think of me as a session drummer for this now." Somehow I don't see that happening.

I will be so angry if MP comes back.  I was looking so forward to the next album and the new drummer.  Plus it would be INCREDIBLY unfair to the drummers who auditioned and the guy that got the gig, only to be discarded immediately for Mike to come back to a job he says his heart isn't in right now.  Wouldn't be fair to us either.

Who knows.  Hopefully we're all just blowing this out of proportion.  I just went over to his facebook page to ask a (no doubt futile) question about whether that change in info meant he'd be going back, but I saw so many negative comments on his wall like "come back to DT, A7X sucks, I'm so disappointed," that I decided to leave a friendly "hope your break is going well.  Rock on, ignore the haters, looking forward to that Morse/Morse/LaRue/Portnoy thing" instead.  I felt kind of bad for him.

I don't know what Mike could be holding up legally, though I admittedly know very little about how this kind of stuff works. Mike has a right to royalties based on anything produced when he was a part of Dream Theater, but nothing going forward I would think.

Is this actually what is holding the hold up with the new drummer? this is a pretty full-on accusation. I think Portnoy would exercise good will to allow the other band members to continue, not to hold them back. Although, its understandable in the case involving the issue of royalties and other legal things of that nature. He's entitled to a fair go, consarnit!
So if he is holding them back, i doubt it's intentionally to prevent DT from moving forward.

There is no hold up with the new drummer. That announcement will be coming very soon, however there is a mess to clean up and good will has been replaced by will of another kind.
