I wasn't serious, BTW. It's just that he holds his sticks in a funky way. (At least, that's what I saw in one of his videos)

If you read a little on Wildoers facebook page I think it's likely he auditioned. But I'm not shure.

I've looked at his Facebook page a few times now and there's nothing that I notice that suggests he did or did not audition. What are you referring to?

Can you read swedish? Another guy asked how it had gone the same week the auditions where, and he answered, fine, see you on monday. also some other small hints. But as I said, nothing I can be sure off.  I just have a feeling he did audition, and to those who don't think he can pull it off, check out more of his work. Has been my favorite drummer for years.

SystematicThought

Yep. Peter definately auditioned. Here's the face book conversation that  metalpete mentioned

On October 22nd one of his friends says
(Rough translation) Good Luck Peter, hope it went well

Peter's response on the 22nd of October: Thanks Pelle. It has gone well. See you Monday!

Also, whenever someone on facebook asks aout Dream Theater on his page, he never answers, but he answers every other post.

SoundscapeMN

saw something the other day that suggested Mike Mangini got the gig, but then someone on last.fm posted about it being Thomas Lang.

I really don't think Wildoer was chosen, especially with the work visa fiasco (probably not his fault)... If we could get the exact time of the Wildoer interview we could possibly count him out. Oct 18th is when the auditions started, and I'd think the candidates would need maybe 2 weeks to a month notice. The facebook comments are suspicious, but I don't think he got the gig.

Ah see, yeah, I can't read Swedish. In that case, updated list:

Thomas Lang
Marco Minnemann
Mike Mangini
Peter Wildoer

-----

Virgil Donati - Auditioned and was cut
John Macaluso - Likely auditioned and was cut
Bobby Jarzombek - May not have auditioned
Charlie Zeleny - Did not audition
Mark Zonder - Did not audition

So somebody in that thread from Virgil Donati's board claims that DT has chosen Aquiles Priester, formerly of Angra.  Don't know if there's any truth to it, but it's an interesting name I haven't heard brought up here yet.  I looked him up on youtube and this is the first thing I watched.  Pretty impressive I think:

The Awesome

Priester is an outrageous drummer. He has insane chops, especially with his feet. If they can't get Lang, AP would be a great choice.

He has such precise drumming, and I think it's very tasteful and innovative. I'd be happy with him in the band.

I wanna vote for that guy!  Especially if he brings that kit!

In this interview (second-last paragraph), which was released well after auditions were held, Wildoer seems to suggest that he did not audition in stating that, were he asked, he would consider it. The exact timing of the interview is the obvious x-factor, though.
When the interview was released is not necessarily when the interview was conducted. In this case, it seems very unlikely to be as clearly he wouldn't talk about the auditions speculatively after they had already happened.

I'm with PC, I don't think we can rule Wildoer out yet. The others I mostly agree with though.

Everyone should check out the Angra Rebirth tour DVD, an amazing concert.  Excellent drummer, shame he's not still with the band.

that guy is awesome! never heard of him til now. cool stuff

Adami

Very talented, and I'd kill a pakistani for his drumkit, but it didn't seem very original or interesting.

This Priester guy seems pretty cool. Wouldn't mind if he was chosen.

Well, Darkane has toured the US many times without problems, so I don't see this workvisa problem as something else as a cover up for the cancelation of the tour. Maybe because someone has to practice some songs.

pain of occupation

how is it that angra/aquiles seem to be such unknowns in the DTF community!?
ive been perusing the forums in recent months and was irk'd at the perceived lack of an angra thread, especially with the new album n junk.

anywayz, priester would be cool by me.

I don't like the new guy that much. Surely he's fast, knows how to play exactly what he has in mind and I think he's perfect for any power metal band. But for Dream Theater? I don't think so. I highly doubt he has been chosen. I mean, why on earth him over Lang???

metalpete

Priester reminds me of a clone between MP and Shawn Drover.

Are my english that bad? Did I accidentally imply that they announced anyone? By the new guy I mean the new guy that is being rumoured.

No, I misread your post. I didn't read it completely I missed the part where you said you didn't think he'd be chosen. Your English isn't that bad.
