Are there any other Neurosis fans here?
Yep.

I own pretty much everything the band has made since Through Silver In Blood but I've really only scratched the surface in truly listening to them. They're a very dense band and it takes more than a couple listens to 'get' one of their albums IMO and I've only spent a serious amount of time with TSIB and maybe A Sun That Never Sets. Definitely something I need to rectify in the future.

Through Silver in Blood= :omg:

Probably the heaviest album I've ever head along with Meshuggah's Chaosphere (or possibly even heavier) and it's a ton to take in. I'm sure it will become one of my favourite metal albums in due time.

Just stop being a complete newb and you will. It's either between Neurosis or Converge for the best metal band ever, I change my opinion every week or so, but Neurosis have been putting out masterpiece after masterpiece since Souls at Zero. I thought their last album was a step below what they usually put out, but that still leaves a run of 7 or 8 albums in a row that are amazing.

What if he just doesn't like the style?

i listened to through silver and blood and found it kind of exhausting in not the best way, and eye of every storm just felt... lifeless, like they were trying to be isis but had no clue how to do that  :tup

ofc i only listened to these once each and it was a while back now but

I felt the opposite, I found listening to Isis for the first time boring and found TEoES to be great.

Neurosis and Isis are definitely two different beasts even if they are both Post-Metal giants. Personally I think Neurosis are closer to the Sludge Metal side with an emphasis on slow crushing riffs whereas Isis is more a traditional Post-Rock band infused with a heavier sound. The Eye Of Every Storm is probably the closest Neurosis have come to that "light" Post-Rock sound, and IMO it's a really good one. Personally I started with Times of Grace and have very fond memories of it. Either that one or Through Silver in Blood would be my favorite, but you could literally throw up any of their albums since Souls at Zero and it would be awesome. With Isis, they don't have as many albums, but nobody can deny the awesomeness that is Panopticon and Oceanic.

Neurosis is a band who definitely does not deserve to be obscure. I would put their music in the 'acquired taste' category. it's unique and far from metal for masses.

I think they are one of the most consistent metal bands ever. Their run of albums from Souls at Zero to The Eye of Every Storm is very strong. Times of Grace is probably my favorite.

Pretty much yeah. You could ask me every day what the top3 metal bands are and Neurosis would be one of the 3 names every day. Just so incredibly consistent, so many great songs, riffs, albums.. they have a few duds like all bands (the first 2 aren't very good IMO) but Souls at Zero onwards is just an incredible run of 4.5 and 5 / 5 albums.

That´s bad. The statement of the other Neurosis guys seems miles apart from Kelly´s story.
Let´s hope his family is in good hands and he gets the help he needs.

It also explains why he wasn´t on the latest Mastodon album and tour.
