Missed the part about you not being a fan of long songs, apparently.  Whoops.  Glad to see you liked it.  I love the piano work as well, it's what got me hooked.

That Caravan Palace song sounds interesting.  I'll have to check it out.

EDIT: The funny thing is that antigoon's roulette may very well end before DTVT's one! :lol

Considering he started before me should.  Also, I did 6 rounds and a playoff and I'll still probably finish before him.  Get your facts straight.

It wasn't a shot at you or anything. :chill I'm well aware of all that and you won't see me complaining about your roulette duration. I just pointed out what I thought was a funny situation. :)

I wasn't offended...I forgot the "You Mad" pic to show I was just messing with you.  We're cool  :tup

3 Points - Soundscape: Apes & Androids, “Riverside”
Leave it to you to consistently send me great music from bands that I haven’t even heard of. The chord progression is a bit strange, but I quite like it. Also, I think the band uses electronic sounds really well in an otherwise very earthy, organic-sounding song. There’s so much going on in this song, but I’m never overwhelmed by any of it. It just feels natural, which is excellent. And you’re right, the Brian May harmonies in the solo are very cool! The second 4 slot was between yours and Rich's and it really was a toss-up.

glad you dug it. Go ahead and check out the whole album when you get the chance. I regard Blood Moon as probably the most significant album I've listened to the last 5 years, and certainly an all-time favorite now and likely many years/decades to come.

A parting note: Thank you all so much for participating. I know I got slow at the end, but I assure you it wasn't for lack of caring -- Real life just kinda got in the way, and I apologize for keeping you all waiting for so long! The good news is that I've discovered some really excellent music. Like, really brilliant stuff. So thanks again for sharing, I appreciate it. I'm going to keep updating this thread with my thoughts on all the albums I've acquired throughout the six rounds. I hope you'll check back in :)

So, on to the rankings and final leaderboard.

10/10 Sigz - Children of Nova - Arcaedion

Some songs you have to listen to a lot of times to "get." This wasn't one of them. The energetic opening riff hooked me right away. The vocalist, who at points sounds like a dead ringer for Cedric from The Mars Volta, is wonderful. Some great melodies and harmonies there. To top it all off, there's a pretty sweet instrumental break! Great percussion work. Excellent song.

9/10 Kev - Peter Gabriel - Washing of the Water - Ratpie - Secret World Tour of 1993

Wow. I need to check out Gabriel immediately. This was just excellent…really captivating from start to finish. What a powerful performance. And the lyrics! The lyrics!

8/10 Gorille - Ulver - It Is Not Sound

Cool keyboard solo, bro. :neverusethis: But really, I think this is one of the best songs you've sent me! Your past few submissions have been really good! I'll be checking out Blood Inside ASAP. "WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTT"

8/10 Sonata - Casey James & The Staypuft Kid

WTF did I just listen to? That was great!

7/10 SDN - Peter Gabriel - Red Rain

Yeah. If nothing else, this roulette has shown me that I've been neglecting Peter Gabriel for far too long. Good song!

7/10 Letters - Oceansize - Unfamiliar

I've heard a lot about this band here, but I've never checked them out before. "Unfamiliar" is a very cool song. Just really interesting rhythmically and I liked the soft break in the middle. Although it didn't blow me away, I would be interested in checking out a record.

6/10 SoundscapeMN - Kaddisfly - Via Rail

I thought the chorus to this song was excellent. However, I didn't think the verses quite held up. Not that they were bad or anything -- they just didn't really hold my attention. The speaking parts, though short, were a bit jarring as well. Great guitar work, though.

5/10 Rich - Amplifier - Neon

Interesting song. I really like the vocal harmonies in the end of the song, but I wasn't too big on the melodies throughout. I dunno, didn't tickle my fancy. Kinda neither here nor there. Hence the 5.

4/10 SBB - The Darkness - Hazel Eyes

So I thought I was listening to a Queen song until the vocals came in…and then I still thought I was listening to a Queen song. The best part about this song was the guitar solo at the end. The falsetto vocals and the bagpipes or whatever irritated the shit out of me :lol

FINAL LEADERBOARD

Kev - 29 Points
Fanörk - 26 Points
Sigz - 23 Points

Rich - 22 Points
SDN - 22 Points
Soundscape - 21 Points
Gorille - 21 Points
Letters - 20 Points
SBB - 17 Points

Congrats, Kev!

hmm, well, I debated on a number of songs off Set Sail the Prairie to send you, but Via Rail remains my favorite and I find it the most interesting; how odd the meter is and the shift in pacing. Even the lyrics really grabbed me one of the 1st times I heard it.

antigoon, if you haven't heard the whole record though, you should when the time allows. Your taste would very naturally appeal to Kaddisfly.

That's three Peter Gabriel songs this roulette, two from me and Kev, and that cover I sent you earlier  :lol.  His solo stuff is miles above his stuff in Genesis, go get yourself a copy of III or So now.

Congrats to Kev.  This was fun, Antigoon!

Joe...if you are lacking Peter Gabriel I suggest you fix that immediately.  Someone at DTF said that Secret World Live is their favorite concert DVD (I think it was Kev), and that is an excellent place to start if you don't have the money to drop all his albums.

Secret World ain't a bad place to start with Peter Gabriel at all, but its missing a lot of stuff from Security and III, which are both essential, though it does a great job of capturing the art/world music/pop style of Gabriel.

:lol That's true though. So glad you sent me Brooke Fraser. In fact, why don't I get these album reviews/discussions started

Brooke Fraser - Flags
This is a really superb singer/songwriter record. Fraser's voice is just beautiful and the song arrangements, which go beyond what I'd expect from an album like this, really compliment it well. If you like to listen to cute girls singing great, concise tunes, check this album out right away. Lyrics are pretty great, too. Thank sneakyblueberry for this one.

SBB sent this tune, "Crows and Locusts," for my roulette.
https://listen.grooveshark.com/s/Crows+and+Locusts/3eGn00

My personal favorite is "Coachella." Listening to it really just puts me in a great mood.
https://listen.grooveshark.com/s/Coachella/3eGmHs

Really, check her out if it sounds interesting to you.

On the subject of Peter Gabriel, I'll probably check out III before I jump into a live recording, but I'll definitely keep that DVD in mind.

EDIT: So I was at Best Buy today doing some Christmas shopping, and what do I come across? Secret World Live. I figured it was fate, so I bought it.
