If I change the timetable, am I no different than numbers?  BTW, I know who the leaders in the club house are, so the first round submission begins tomorrow.

Ok, so the players are (in no particular order):

Wolfking
YtseBitsySpider
SoundscapeMN
Sigz
Zantera
Gorille85
Portrucci
Seventh Son

As Antigoon suggested, if you can send me the song via link (via PM) for grooveshark, the artist's or their label's official youtube link, a band's offical myspace page, band's official website, or some other "official" channel, I can post direct links to the songs for everyone.

So, first round I'm going to call "Irrational Numbers", in honor of our instrumental hating brother Numbers - send an instrumental song!  48 hours for the first round, the remaining rounds will be 24 hours because I'm going to post all the round themes in a minute or two so you can plan ahead.

Good Luck!

For your reference, future rounds:

Round 2:  Standout vocal performance - you know, to counteract the instrumental you are about to send me.
Round 3:  Lyrical content - a song whose lyrics are either very meaningful or very important to you
Round 4:  Debut - basically an open round, but the song sent must be from the band's debut album (EP's and demos excluded)
Round 5:  New release - again, another openish round, but the song must be from a bands most recent album that came out within the last 2 years
Round 6:  Long song - shoot for 8 minutes +

The knockout stage will all be open rounds.

Great! I was just wondering...my list is pretty much done for the 6 rounds so...Can I still send a song by a band in round 5 for example if someone sent a song by the same band on an earlier round?

There is a song I'd like to submit, but I can't find a super-legal version of the song. It's from a little known 1976 prog album, it's not on grooveshark and there certainly isn't a myspace  :lol I do have an unofficial YT link. I personally don't think the band would mind, but it's up to you.
on par with the anguish one would have from getting unconsensually bent over and buttloved.

That's more than fine.  If anyone else wants to listen to it, they just have to search for it on youtube.  The first two people didn't send "official" links either...it just means I can't post the link without incurring the wrath of mods.

I've just logged onto Grooveshark.  This is unbelievable, you can just listen to any song ever in good quality, for free, amazing.

How are you guys deciding what to send so quickly, there's heaps I could send, but I'm conflicted.

a tad risky..as most of my stuff is obscure.

I was hoping to send some magic elf, but youtube just has carl roa and only one m.e song...in the end I went with Maxxess and discovered he's released a new CD.(so bonus I get something too..if I can find it)

I've heard of him, but I'm not familiar with his music, so its fine.

I have them all now - and I've listened to each of them except wolfking's which I won't do until I get home.  I have the rest of them ranked, so I just need to find out where wolfking's is.

While I'm at it, I might as well post my scoring and seeding tie-breakers so they are listed before any scoring is done.  There are 30 total points each round to be distributed between the 8 songs, with scores ranging from 1 to 6.  I figured that on a 1-6 scale, 3.5 was average, so I multiplied that by the number of players (8), which gave 28, and added 2 more to get an round number.  I think it will allow me to be more flexible in my scoring while not succumbing to a halo effect by limiting the number of points available.

Seeding tie-breakers:
1) Most rounds in first place (6 points earned)
2) Least rounds in last place (fewest points)
3) Score for round 6
4) Score for round 5 etc., until tie is broken.

Round 1 - Instrumental Song (If there is no link, find it on youtube)

6 points
SoundscapeMN - God Is An Astronaut - Zodiac: https://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Zodiac/2sONS5

I realize this is the first song write-up most of you are reading, but if Ytse's song and Sigz song had a baby, Zodiac would be it.  It's everything I liked about their two songs put togeter.  I'm definately going to have to check some more out.

5 points
YtseBitsySpider - MAXXESS - DE-LAYED:  This has everything I look for in a instumental:  atmosphere, something that grabs my attention, all without smothering the music, and its mixed very well.  There's nothing here to really complain about, and someone I'll be looking at getting in the future.

Sigz - Amesoeurs - Gas in Veins: https://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Gas+in+Veins/1Zkkfz
I liked how this song made me feel a sense of urgency, like I should be in a hurry to go somewhere, yet the music itself isn't rushed or super fast.  I felt like it is the soundtrack to an impending panic attack that's still internalized...frenzied, yet eerily subdued.  I liked this song a little more each time I listened to it.  Also, every time I try to come up with a pronunciation for that band name I come up with something different.  Again, I'm seeing the worm and thinking about biting.

4 points
Portrucci - Ragnarok - Dagarnas Skum:
When I read Port's brief description of the song, "Beautiful instrumental prog/folk from 1976."  This is pretty much what I had in mind.  Very relaxing an enjoyable, reminds me of some of the stuff Veronika has sent out on Track of the Day.  It doesn't try to take you anywhere, which is the opposite of the song Sigz sent, but still very enjoyable.

Wolfking - Jason Becker - Altitudes:  https://listen.grooveshark.com/#/search/songs/?query=jason%20becker%20altitudes
You sent this because I'm a fellow Tony MacAlpine fan, and I can definately see the connection.  It's a shame about Jason having ALS, I'm sure he could have given us much more.  My only real complaint is that the guitar noodling is a little too upfront, as guitarist's solo albums tend to be.  Much like Tony, I could really get into this when in the right mindset.

3 points
Zantera - Porcupine Tree - Mother and Child:  https://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Mother+and+Child+Divided/2g4fAl
Either you forgot I beat the drumhead for the "Porcupine Tree is overrated" crowd, or you tried to change my mind.  Well, this song didn't change my mind.  It wasn't very atmospheric, or attention grabbing, or anything noteworthy.  It is average, and as such, gets an average score, whether its named Porcupine Tree or Dream Theater.

2 points
Seventh Son - Celtic Frost - Winter:  It is very atmospheric and kind of hangs over your head, much like a Winter night, but in the end there just wasn't enough to this song for it to stand on its own.  Like you said, it's part of a larger suite - also, I get the impression that this song is not representative of Celtic Frost as a whole, but it's mostly a bowed instrument over non-descript foreboding background.  Not bad...but not really what I'm looking for in an instrumental either.

1 point
Gorille85 - Ulver - Hallways of Always:  Something about this song just didn't click for me.  A little too electronic, and some of the noises they used annoyed me more than added to the musical atmosphere.  Then there's that record scratch thing in the middle of the song...so yeah, this song never really caught on for me.  I kept waiting for this song to kick it up a notch while I was listening...but it never did.

Standings:
See above   :hat

Round 2:  Standout vocal performance.  If I can get them by Sunday morning that would be great.

Hmm interesting. I'll settle for 4 points.   I do disagree with you on Hallways of Always, which is one of my favourite songs...but if you are not into electronic I can see why it wouldn't appeal. Anyway, good write up!

Didn't expect that one to get me very far, but as I said before most instrumentals that I have are mostly interludes and not really fleshed out instrumentals. Eh, I could have thrown one of Slough Feg's instrumentals at you but I was hoping to save Slough Feg for later

And no, it really isn't representative of Celtic Frost's sound. Just listen to To Mega Therion and compare the two  :lol

I'll have to decide on what the next song I send you will be....
