Scenes From My Memory v. Honor Thy Father

Indiscipline:
Ladies and Gentlemen, Porcupines and Trees, greetings and welcome to the second edition of Indiscipline's Already Spectacularly Failed Attempt To A Heavily Drunk, Barely Coherent, And Long Winded Listener's Story Of Dream Theater's Discography©.

Why?

Because I can, I'm bored out of my Elusive Mind©, and above all because the forum crash ate the first edition. Furthermore, my favourite band since I started growing facial hair is living a  seminal moment, and I feel like celebrating  by cleaning up my DT Memory Closet©.

*Crickets*

Now, dear reader, if you can't give a fock about the ramblings of an old fart, please do go back to analyse fundamental matters as “Nugget: At Minute 1:42 of Caught In A Web You Can Hear LaBrie Breaking Wind” or “Poll: JP's Legato Sensibly Better Since He Quit Waxing His Chest? Discuss”. God knows we need it. But if you are old enough to remember the last 18 years and care to revive the experience of descovering your favourite masterpieces, or are interested in the incoherent babblings of a nostalgic windbag, please grab a chair and Enjoy the Race©.

How are we doing this?

We're breaking this baby down in 12 chapters for I'm a sucker for shiny concept things with nerdage on the side. Every chapter will first encompass the musical landscape the album I'm covering has found its place in as well as my Very Very Unnecessary© point of view, expectations, and needs as an avid listener at the time. Then we'll move to this project's actual meat and potatoes, the new and improved  Loser Textual Experiment©: a Vodka Fueled Second by Second Album Running Diary© which will feature my immediate reactions to the songs, headphones still warm and smoking. Focking brilliant, if you ask me.

Are you shitting me?

By all means, no. I swear I will take great pains in staying faithful to original thoughts and ramblings spawned from 1992 to 2009 because, you know, this is an internet message board, hence we all tell the truth and are blessed with large penises and gorgeous wives.

Are you doing this whole mess all alone?

You wish. I'm getting help from a trustworthy cast of characters, basically the most important people in my life. So important that they absolutely ignore I'm using them as pawns and mouthpieces for an internet message board pointless gimmick. They are:

The Drumming Dad©: Still the first person I argue about music with, although we live in different countries and he's as old as Bill Bruford. Simply my hero, and one of the finest drummers of the fertile '70's Italian Prog Scene. He has watched Led Zeppelin live, shook hands with Phil Collins and opened for Jethro Tull. He can't be wrong.

The Banging Big Bro©: Air Guitarist Extraordinaire, Metal Thrashing Mad©. Constant source of inspiration and competition as a music fan. Adamant about his idols' perceived superiority over mine. Redeeming quality: he's born on the day Deep Purple In Rock hit the shelves.

The Material Mom©: The most uninterested and superficial music listener I've ever known, therefore the only one commonsensical enough to remind me I'm just listening to a piece of vinyl, not witnessing Moses parting the Red Sea. God bless the crazy witch.

Spurious characters like Gilfriend #01, Girlfriend #02, Wife #01, Ex Wife #01, Record Store Heroin Junkie Clerk, Boy Band Sister, Techno Buddy will occasionally make their appearance.

I'm calling gobshite! A little too many women for a DT fan!

Hey, we're talking about a 18 years span, smarty pants.

Do we really need this?

No, we don't. But wether you're still mourning The Loss©, or frantically waiting for The Next One©, are you sure you can't use some humourous reminiscence of a beautiful progressive past?
Said that, I'm leaving this open for questions, comments, suggestions, mockery and insults before posting the first installment, that is Scene 01: Regression - The Wembley Tribute and The Oedipus Syndrome©

Stay classy.
