Big Bang Theory - Season 4
« on: October 13, 2010, 01:27:57 AM »
This has been my favourite show since it came out but, just like Season 3, I'm disappointed with the first few episodes.

Where are the recurring characters?  Where are Stuart, Dr. Gabelhauser, Winkle, etc?  They haven't even been to the comic book store.  I also feel like they're moving more towards a standard sit-com forumula instead of doing quirky and unique science stuff like they did the first two seasons.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll pick up, the show is gold!

I've only seen the first 2 series so far, but out of 39 episodes they've only been to the comic book store maybe 3 times, and Gabelhauser has only appeared in a handful of episodes. It's not like those are a major part of the show.

Looking forward to catching up though, should be borrowing season 3 off a friend later this week.

I just started watching this show, it is pretty damn funny. One of the best on TV right now.

Penny is pretty much the reason I watch it. Wolowitz can be kind of funny sometimes too.
Zydar is my new hero.  I just laughed so hard I nearly shat.

I imagined the story to go more like this.

I was sitting a traffic light blaring Space Dye Vest and next to me in another car was Kevin Moore. And I'll never be open again.

The characters I mentioned don't necessarily have to be in the show.  I guess I'm trying to suggest they meet people outside their circle more often.  I think they're leaning on the Sheldon character way too much.  A lot of the great stuff the show has comes from when they interract with new people.

I can't even remember the last time they played paintball or had any video/board game reference (ie. playing in the apartment when Penny walks in).

I'd also love to see Missy Cooper make a return visit, for obvious reasons.  I miss Raj's parents.  Will we ever see both Mom's in the same episode maybe going at it creation v. evolution-style?  Seth Green would be a wicked guest star in some capacity.

Ah well, whatever they do, I'm just glad that an unconventional geek show is doing so well.  I feel good knowing that there are jokes that myself and other nerds get that maybe 75% of other people don't.  It's like being part of a geek chic club or something.

I stopped watching somewhere near the end of season 2. I saw a few random episodes of the newer seasons but I just don't find it funny anymore. I downloaded the latest eps but stopped watching halfway because it just wasn't entertaining anymore.

I don't really find the show that funny (though it's certainly not bad), but I'll watch it if it's on just because of Kaley Cuoco.

THE HOT TROLL DEVIATION

This was a sweet episode as we finally get to see why Howard and Bernadette broke up but the coolest thing was Raj standing up to Sheldon.  Penny's done it in the past but I'm sick of Sheldon getting his way in everything they do.  I called it to my wife just before he walked into his office that I bet Raj bought a HUGE desk... and he did!  Nice to see Bernadette again, I always thought she was cute.  Good stuff this week.

Speaking of legendary tits they need to bring back Dr. Stefanie Barnett (Sara Rue).  Leonard is single for now and she should come back.  I don't even know how they broke up in the first place.

Aw, man, low blow.  She's on Jenny Craig now and is back to her skinny-ish self.  I just love how she could handle Sheldon without him even realizing it.

THE DESPERATION EMANATION

This was probably the worst episode ever.  Nothing about it made me laugh or even smile.  Leonard's blind date story was just stupid and this whole Sheldon-with-a-girlfriend thing is not working at all.  At least they finally went to the comic book store... for 5 seconds.  It was just so lame.  There was one awesome part, however, and that was the preview for the new one next week.

I do love how they have so much Alienware product placement as they are great machines.

I thought this was an average episode.
I didn't really like Leonard's storyline, but he hasn't had a strong story in a while. Howard and Raj weren't really around much.
I actually liked Sheldon's portion of the episode. This was the strongest Sheldon and Ami have played off of each other so far. I was very hesitant to subscribe to the notion of Sheldon having a girl-who-is-also-a-friend, but this episode crushed any qualms I had about that idea. They proved they could pull off some excellent comedy with those two.
And, yeah Leonard's blind date scene was really irritating.

I'm fine with the whole Sheldon's girlfriend thing, but I really hope that it's not the central theme of the entire season. They need to focus more on the other characters.

THE IRISH PUB FORMULATION

I'll give this one a 3.5/5.  It was funny when they started revealing secrets shotgun-style.  The best part was Sheldon playing the text-based adventure game.  Being a nerd myself I remember playing those on my Commodore 64.  I had actually totally forgotten about that entire game genre until this episode.  Ah, the memories.

THE APOLOGY INSUFFICIENCY

2.5/5

Another 'meh' episode.  Nothing really happened in this one and even though I can accept Sheldon being a douche to the FBI and completely clueless that he shot his mouth off but not the other guys, especially Leanard pulling that crap in the interview.  They knew how important this was to Howard and they completely blew it.  None of them were good friends in this episode.

When did Penny start working at the bar?  I know she was practicing drink mixing but that was like 2 years ago so when did she get this job?

I thought tonight's episode was pretty good, nice to see Penny back after a bit of a hiatus. Also, with respect to recurring characters, it looks like Will Wheaton's coming back next week.

Leonard was a bit annoying when he was trying to project confidence. I didn't really like his role for this episode.

Howard and Sheldon had some good moments, and a somewhat touching ending, too. Which, of course, gets instantly reverted once Sheldon returned to normal.

And Penny needs to exist more. I miss the Penny/Sheldon exchanges...

I don't like that Sheldon now seems to be the main character rather then Leonard. Obviously Leonard pining over Penny couldn't last forever, but they need to find something new for him other than "I need a girlfriend." Sheldon is hilarious, but he shouldn't be the center of every episode.
