The one in Hollow Years on the Live at the Budokan dvd.  Jeez.... that one blows me away every time...  :hefdaddy

That's an awesome one. Definitely one of my favorites. It's like the perfect limelight solo that just really makes you respect Petrucci. When Labrie announces John Petrucci's name, and during a single break in the solo he raises his hand, pointing up like, "Yeah, bitches, that's me." and goes right back to finishing a great solo and the song.

/fanboy off

Damn right, sir! Like.... "Who's your daddy now, biatches?!!"  :metal

WTF, indeed.  I figured the OP meant to leave out some of the better solos just to see what people would choose from his options, but I'm not so sure anymore.  There are a lot of his greatest ones missing.

TBOT is not in Petrucci's top 30 solos, let alone his best ever.  And it's still pretty good.

Indeed, his guitar damn near cries during that solo. LtL is just fucking amazing and that solo is no exception.

Lines In The Sand. The solo sounds so natural that it makes it perfect. No crazy shredding, only genuine emotion.
Jesus Christ himself* comes down amidst a choir of 2 billion angels singing Handel's Hallelujah chorus. As KrotchRaut shred randomly on guitars made of dragon bones using picks made from God's kidney stones, Jesus heals a blind woman who promptly gives birth onstage to a creation of pure light.

*Yes, Jesus Christ himself. Nothing less will do.

I also realized that the solo from The Killing Hand isn't here.

 :sadpanda:

Incredibly underrated solo.

I actually really like the solo from Don't Look Past Me.  It's incredibly melodic.  I don't think anyone's mentioned it yet.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges
