Well, damn. Music really is that subjective, sometimes to the point I feel like my ears were created in an alternate reality.

What if everyone is experiencing a different reality? I guess in some way we are.

Yeah I really like Ross' voice as well, it has a unique quality and gives Haken a lot of what distinguishes them from other bands.

Totally agree.  One of my favorite parts of Visions is the final 5 mins of Nocturnal Conspiracy.   :hefdaddy

Can't wait for the new album!

From the Haken Facebook page:

"So we're gonna play a new song at the London show on Friday. And we're gonna play it again in Cardiff on Saturday. Then we're gonna play it for a third time at HRH PROG in Rotherham on Sunday. BUT IT STILL DOESN'T HAVE A NAME!"

So I saw Haken tonight supporting Von Hertzen Brothers, and they rocked as always. Not the tightest performance I've seen them do, but still pretty great!

They did indeed play the new song, and it sounded very cool. The chorus especially was really nice; the more intricate technical bits were not so easy to make out first time around because the sound in the venue wasn't amazing. It did sound quite bonkers though!

I spoke to Hen after they played their set and before VHB came on stage, and he revealed a couple of tidbits. 1) He would say that the song they played is probably the least good on the album, it's just the only one they're really ready to play. And 2) they are having their first demo (the one before Aquarius) remastered to improve the sound and will be releasing it in some capacity.

Their setlist tonight was:
1. Drowning in the Flood
2. Eternal Rain
3. Unnamed New Song
4. The Mind's Eye
5. Portals
6. Shapeshifter

No me neither. I would love to.

I'm really excited for the new album and curious what concept they'll use? Is that confirmed by the way, concept album or not?

Oh yeah forgot about that, he was also explaining that it's not really a concept album, but is themed around the life and struggles of being in the band. Sounds a bit more personal in nature, lyrically.

On a non Haken related matter, how was the VHB concert?

It was great! Their music isn't as crazily intricate as Haken's, so the sound quality in the venue was pretty much fine for them, and they played really well. Kie and Mikko are so charasmastic and enjoyable to watch, but Jonne is very quiet and just sort of plays in the corner. When the three of them harmonise together it's just amazing though, best live performance I've seen from a rock band in that regard!

The set was mostly songs from the latest two albums, as those are the only ones that have really had any attention in the UK. I only had Stars Aligned, but fortunately there were still plenty of songs from it. I've now bought the new one as well, because the other songs they played sounded fantastic.

Setlist:

1. Insomniac
2. Writings On The Wall
3. Flowers And Rust
4. Coming Home
5. Angel's Eyes
6. Always Been Right
7. Lost In Time
8. Separate Forevers
9. I Believe
10. Freedom Fighter
11. Gloria
12. Prospect For Escape
--------------
13. Miracle
14. Let Thy Will Be Done

Is it comparable to a previous Haken song? Or did it remind of one of the previous albums?
Glad to hear that they are still pushing for strong choruses.

About the demo.

Do they play any of those songs live?

And for those who don't have it and are looking to get it, I think the only way to get it is to email the band, that's what I did. They sent me a copy for free, along with a bunch of other goodies such as a poster, stickers, a pamphlet with some bio stuff and pics, and business cards. If they're going to give the demo an 'official' release remastered, I don't know if they'll do it now, you might have to wait til it gets released.

Yeah, there was actually a poster on this very board who mailed me the demo when I said I didn't have it, and his email address was on Haken's Facebook page reading that you could email him if you wanted the demo.

There's a guy on the Haken forum that will mail you the demo and other little bits of Haken stuff if you send a PM requesting it. no charge, he just needs your address. Sounds very sketchy, I know, but that's how I got mine. I couldn't believe it. He's apparently an agent for Haken and he mails anyone the demo who asks for it.
