As I said though, it's not saving them anything on cost, but it is limiting their audience. So it doesn't make sense to be financial reasons.

Aren't vinyls sold for much higher prices that probably include higher profit margins?

From what they said, they would have sold the CDs alone at the same price.

Are they including the CD with the vinyl?

Just at a guess - I would imagine their fanbase at large is more likely to buy vinyl than to buy CDs.  I wouldn't be surprised to see more bands do this, especially bands on this "level" of financial success.

Can this really be the case? I guess I've just never seen vinyl as being anything more than niche, even in a fanbase for a band that's sort of niche themselves.

Yea, somehow I really doubt the vinyl is anywhere near as popular as the CDs for Haken.

I might buy the vinyl though. I really want the CD and having Haken on vinyl definitely wouldn't be the worst thing in the world :p

Vinyl sales have grown by noticeable percentages while CD sales continue to decline.

Vinyl sales rose 32% in 2013 after an 18% increase in 2012. The numbers still differ of course, CDs still sell more in numbers, but Vinyl is more than just a niche.

This.

Haken's fan base is probably part of the same population that are just as likely to (illegally) download an mp3 as buy a CD.

I would imagine, however, that their fanbase also overlaps with the population that is enamored with vinyl.

I wouldn't be surprised to see more prog acts go this route in the near future.

Daaaamn... that's expensive. If the vinyl-only version is cheaper I'll get that just so I have a physical copy.

Ummmm,  vinyl only? I don't think that's an option. It's this, or MP3's, my friend.

I thought the Vinyl+CD option was the England import? :P Or is that the only version being released? Also does the vinyl preorder come with a .flac version of the album like The Mountain did?

I believe they said that this release would be a digital download only unless you bought the vinyl package which is only an import.

Re-read the last page or two, it's all been discussed and debated.

Not often I will just up and pay for a burning shed import right off the bat, but this is an obvious exception. MUST HAVE NOW.

I hope the lyrics are closer to The Mountain than the two before... Honestly not excited to hear that the next album after Restoration is another concept... I think it only tends to detract from the music.

I feel the exact opposite. I like the complex and interwoven music that tends to come out when bands write concept albums.

You do know The Mountain is also a concept album right? The only difference is that it does not followed a literal story, it follows a lyrical theme.

Visions was a concept just like Aquarius, but I think it doesn't have as clear a story/meaning as Aquarius does. The Mountain, as Gaspar said, is also a concept but is even less of a story.

Also missing the point that the new songs are reworked versions of songs from the demo, so lyrics are likely to be similar to those.

It's about a facebook post from the band. They wrote that they are discussing concepts for album 4.

That very well could just mean what musical and/or lyrical direction they want to take. It might not even mean a concept album. Who knows, maybe they'll make a more song-oriented album? I'm open to any idea they go with.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to call the Mountain a "concept album," personally, just as I wouldn't call Octavarium a concept album really. At the very least, the concepts aren't obvious enough to take away from the listening experience for me. For whatever reason, I think it works well enough with Scenes, but tends to annoy me more with Aquarius and Visions. But if that's the direction they're going for, then all the power to them.

Man, this band keeps coming up everywhere, but I still don't get it. I have listened to The Mountain a couple of times but to me it sounds damn impressive musically, but still it feels a bit generic. Regardless, I do hear that The Mountain is a step up from their previous albums.

If DT went back to having an opening band, would love to see Haken open especially in America.  It would be a real treat for us in the States to see Haken.
