I meant specifically for the songs, but I can see why that'd be confusing. The albums ARE in order, to clarify.

Tonight's London gig was brilliant, as always. Ross sounded slightly weak, think he must have a bit of a cold, but he still did a good job and in general the band sounded fantastic. And the crowd was amazing, best I've seen at a Haken show. The venue was sold out, and the crowd were really into every song. There was more singing along than I've ever seen/heard at a Haken show before!

Setlist was great, mostly new songs, plus two of my favourites from the older albums.

The Path Unbeaten (intro tape)
Atlas Stone
In Memoriam
Drowning in the Flood
Cockroach King
Falling Back to Earth
Diego piano solo/
As Death Embraces
Pareidolia
Somebody
-----------
Visions

Hadn't they played a show the previous night too? He did sound a little strained on the high stuff, and a couple of errors here and there from the other band members but nothing too major.
Really enjoyed the gig, Maschine were a great warm up act, and then everyone went nuts for Haken. I hadn't sweated like that in ages, it was so rammed and energetic in there!

I wonder if I am alone in this:

I enjoy all of the Haken albums.  They're interesting, intricate, sometimes complex, sometimes silly, other times

I've bought all of their CDs and for the first couple of weeks that I owned them, I spun them a lot.  Then...I lost interest.  :(

And now, I don't really feel compelled to go back and listen again.  To ANY of their music.  It's not that I don't like it.  When I listen to it, I usually enjoy it a lot.  But it doesn't seem to have the replay power the way some other CDs have hit me.

Anyone else experience this?

tldr: I like Haken's CDs, but rarely spin them, replay factor: low  You?

I completely agree, but then again, I feel the same way regarding most prog metal. I'll find an album that I love, like Aquarius and Visions, and fall in love with it but never really listen to it again after 4-5 spins. I do think The Mountain will hold up better though, as it's more of my taste. I probably won't listen to it as much as I listen to my favorite albums, but I think I'll still play it every now and then in the future.

Other than Aquarius, which I loved to bits and played non stop for ages, me. Especially Visions, that one had NO staying power and I haven't played it since about two weeks after I got it.

Aquarius still gets spins and The Mountain is even better and will likely enter the circle of albums I never get tired of.
Visions was wholly forgettable though, barely got spins after the first month or so.

I'm so sad that Visions is so seemingly low-ranking among Haken fans. I think it's nearly as good as Aquarius and The Mountain.

Visions is a solid album, but in my book it just is easily overshadows that is the awesomeness of the two albums that surround it.

-post-

I don't really listen to a new album over and over, when theres a new album I like I listen to it maybe three times, then add it to my list and go back to having the whole list on shuffle. So I get the new Haken songs from time to time and they're still fresh and I never really grow tired of them.

Thats the way I find it. I find Aquarius a bit more fun and energetic than Visions, so its album number 3 of a very good 3!

Visions is Haken's Octavarium. Most of the tracks are at least decent, but really the album is carried by the title track, which might be my favorite Haken song.

Here's my recording of the full song - shot during their gig in Rüsselsheim/Germany in October 2013 (including a surprise gift for Tom at the end).  :tup

I only have Visions, but that sums them up in a nutshell for me, for the most part.  Their music is enjoyable and everything, but it simply doesn't stick with me at all.  I think the problem is the vocals and vocal melodies do almost nothing for me, so they are in essence for me are one of those bands that plays music really well, but can't write a good or catchy vocal melody to save their lives.  I even just gave the song Visions a whirl just now, and while it was musically good, I cannot remember one vocal part from it, and the song just kind of ended.

The level of disagreement here reaches near frightening magnitudes.

Well speaking as more of a fan than Kev is, he's got a point. Right now if someone put a gun to my head and say "sing five memorable Haken vocal lines", I'd be able to sing the chorus of Celestial Elixir and some lines from Because It's There and then say "pull the trigger."   :rollin

Really? I could think of several off the top of my head.

"Well I guess you don't/Remember me"
"Drowning in the flood"

And some from Streams, Aquarium, Nocturnal Conspiracy, and Atlas Stone, though the lyrics evade me at the moment.

I've given their albums a cursory listen in the past, but just picked up the discography a couple of weeks ago since I'll probably take some of their gigs in on the Prog@Sea cruise.  That said, I've spun the albums each a couple of times since then, and I gotta say I'm with Kev and Barry.  They haven't quite clicked for me yet.  At least, I'm hoping that I can say "yet".
